Spark plugs???

O.k.....I took my LS in for a bad coil and had them check my spark plugs at the same time. I have a V6 and they told me I am still on my original plugs!!! I bought the car with 62k and it now has 92k, My question is should I stay with OEM plugs or is there a better one out there? The tech was telling me since the block is aluminium(sp) I should stay away from platinum plugs because of the difference in the rate the metals warm up. Any input on this subject?

Also I am keeping my LS. I like this car to much to let it go. (for those wondering)

that's a load of BS if i ever heard it.... that tech didn't know a damn thing. The factory plugs are platinum!!!

Don't listen to that jack@55. The plugs are kind of over rated; there are no magic plugs out there that give you "30% more HP and mileage". Most major brand plugs... champion, NGK, AC/Delco, Motorcraft and the like are good plugs. Iridium is pretty new, but it's about the best development in plug technology in the last 15 years.

From what I've noticed and read on here, when people replace the plugs with non OEM they end up having some sort of issue. If I was having the problem I would go with OEM 150% of the way.

Go with the OEM plug the engine was developed with.

There is no reason to go to an aftermarket spark plug. In my experience, a plug is a plug is a plug. So unless you want to change the heat range of your spark plugs, stick to the OEM Motorcraft plug.

They've worked for you for 92,000 miles, new ones will work for another 92,000.

By the way, now would be a good time to replace ALL the COPs.

as you can see, the prefered plug seems to be the factory replacements. I learned the vast majority of my automotive knowledge from the college automotive classes I took while still in highschool (the rest I learned "OJT" or On Job Training); the guy that taught all of the engine classes, was a racing engine builder and owned a machine shop answer for "what kind of spark plug is best?" was simple; whatever the car came with unless there is a reason to go to a different plug. Given the mileage you have on the factory plugs, I'd say just get factory plugs to replace them. Does it really matter in the long run weather you run motorcraft or Delco? Not really; but you already know what works good, why change now?

Justin, I bareley had an oil change that was 9 months over due .... Had a gig in Fresno Bottom'd out punctured 3 holes in my oil pan, drove for 5 miles not knowing I was leaking all possible oil, Car is a Champ!

JB Welded the heck out of it and couldnt change the oil becuase I welded the plug to the pan,.,.,Any one whos been to fresno knows thats not the place to be stranded :-0

In short, had double tip platinums put in after doing a revamp of overdue maintenance.... No problems so far... and I now have over 116k probably more...

Plug is a Plug, is a Plug... pay higher price for barely any change or go stock and still get to point "B"

You'll never get to the performance level that requires expensive plugs on either engine in the LS. It's kind of like indexing your plugs; on a 1000HP drag machine, it could mean 10- 20HP. On our engine; if you're lucky it'll be worth 1HP. Just get a good platinum or iridium plug (and I say that just based on plug life; they both last about twice as long as copper plugs) and be done with it. Like I said in a couple previous posts; factory plugs worked well for you, and they are platinum. It never hurts to stick with what you know works!
