Solenoid Interchange question

Hi guys,

Can anyone confirm that 5R55N and 5R55W solenoids are interchangable, including worm tracks and gaskets?

Because, from what I am reading in ATSG manuals, they are not.

They are not interchangable. I had to go back to the store to get the other one. The bolt pattern is different for the solenoid.

The N was different, I think that the W and S model share more parts.

ASTG manual is correct. I have a solenoid back for the W if you are interested.

Don't the 2nd Gen cars have the S trans and the W was in the Explorer/Mountaineer.

Yes, sort of...the Explorer could have the W or the S. Same valve body and solenoids, though.

I just don't understand why, people who sell those solenoids, have no idea about those differences. And send wrong parts........ Amusing.

Ah, I have the 5R55N transmission, but really thanks for offer. Maybe someone else has 5R55N solenoid on here, so just let me know.

It makes it feel like your going to need to rebuild the whole trans.. But really, all you need to do is replace the solenoid..

Exactly. I just, still, cant get and check it, due to "responsible" sellers.

There are also 4-3 broken springs and similar, issue, from what I understand having a major part in loosing some gears. Hope, I can check all of those soon.

And in that case, they wouldn't work in either D or SST (Selc-Shift)
