i keep hearing conflicting things.....some say i need atleast a 40+ offset if i am going to run 245/35/20, others say you need atleast 42+, there are 2 sets of wheels that i am looking at and both are 40 offset and one is 8" wide and the other is 8.5" wide, will they work???? dont want to end up like the poor guy who cant even bolt his "universal 5 lug" wheels up lol!

Please lets come to a general agreement on this, so i can order some rims! lol
:D

You can't go by the offset alone. The offset is taken from the center of the wheel which is a different measurment depending on how wide the wheel actually is.

This illistration should help you out.

This calculator should also help you out.

forgive me for being an idot, but still not sure how make sense of that chart

so if i have a 8.5" deep wheel with 40 offset and use a 245/35/20 tire at the stock ls height is it going to rub at all??????

You should be fine if it was under 40 I would say you will probably have some problems but 40 should just make it mine are 42 and lowered about 2 inches full car no problem

I would say yes. I had 245/45/18 with a 40mm offset on a stock height LS; They rubbed with any weight in the back. The 245/40/18s don't. Had I to do it again, I wouldn't go less than a 45mm offset.

ok, one more question
if i have a 7.5" wide wheel with a 38 offset would that work, possibly with different tire size???

Did you check out that calculator mentioned above? It will show you how far out from stock the wheel will stick out.

guys you can say 42mm offset, 45mm offset, 40mm offset all day long. You also need to include the width of the wheel, that makes a HUGE difference. You can run a 34mm offset if the wheel is 7.5" but you cant run a 34mm offset on a 8", include widths too please!

for the wheels that are 7.5" deep this is what i get

Your new wheel will have the following chracteristics:
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 18mm MORE
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 30mm

But, that is just for the wheel.....what about if i have a 245 35 20 ????

I know that you are all so sick of hearing about wheels, just bear with me, i just dont want to make the wrong choices. its hard enough to find a wheel that i like let alone one that can fit the car without rubbing

Thanks!:)

7.5" and what offset?, I can help.

there are a few 36 38 40

also if it is a 7.5" wheel should i still use a 245 35 20

so i assume that if it is a 7.5" with 36 offset with a 245 35 20 will work without rubbing

Sorry I'm probably the only person that laughed uncontrollably when I read that line.......intentional or not that is funny. Any other mispelled word wouldn't have even been noticed..... :-)
