Smooth shift ?

Not is SST Mode !

From a complete stop. When you press on the gas maybe a 2k shift, is it smooth for you? or even anything above it, 2,500k shift? Going from 1st to 2nd ?

almost anything under about 2900 is SST for my 02 LSE V8 it changes gears and lowers RPM a bit, then a second later locks into gear and really drops down... 2nd and 3rd do this for me, anything above that Im hitting the gas hard so I dont notice.

Is that what you're talking about? if it is, a tune can usually fix some of these things.
 
My car always shifts like butter. Unfortunately, I wish it wouldn't.
 
Under 3k shifts going from 1st to 2nd it shifts pretty hard. I wish it was a smooth shift. Got warrenty but to see if its a coil or something there going to charge me 97 bucks. Screw lol.
 
Its the nature of this trans.

Its not going to be perfect unless you get the tune and Im not sure if that will make it perfect even yet. I know it helps out lots but it still wont feel super smooth.


Maybe get the flash update from the dealership. That helped out with some of my hard shifts but like I said its still not going to be perfect.
 
Transmission explained by the guy who calibrated it.......

The transmission in the LS is really two transmissions in one housing. There is a two speed in front and a three speed in back.

First gear has both the front and rear transmissions in low gear.

Second gear shifts the front transmission to high and leaves the rear transmission in low.

Third shifts the front transmission back to low and the rear to second.

Fourth leaves the front in low and the rear shifts to high. Both front and rear are now in 1:1 ratio.

Fifth shifts the front to high again and leaves the rear in high.

From the above you can see that changing the overdrive ratio (the front transmission) affects second and fifth gears. Changing the rear three speed ratios will change all the ratios except fourth and fifth.

Having all the gears in mesh all the time does affect the efficiency, but not all that much. It is the same for almost all automatic transmissions.

A bigger effect on efficiency is bands vs. clutches. Bands release with less drag than clutches, so a transmission that has more bands and less clutches is more efficient. This transmission replaces three clutches with bands and is near the top in the industry for efficiency.

The transmission(s) still shift the same. It's just you telling it when to shift not the computer. Think of the SST as a manual override.

Oh no, I understand that.

I was just saying, I thought the OP was talking about SST mode since really that is the only time I do feel a hard shift. In full out automatic mines pretty smooth.

I made that a point cause after I scrolled up to just review it again I noticed he was not talking about SST mode.

Hence the shifty face:D
