So I have been having some front end noise, jsut got real bad. So i had my bro take my car to carx (free quote, get work done at dealer). They said that the struts are bad and the bearing plates need to be replaced. I just read a thread and soonerls said the ls doesnt have struts, but they have shocks. What brand should I get. They want 500 for the whole job. Is that a good deal. I heard to stay away from monroe (from the same thread). Please help me.

The LS has a coilover strut suspension front and rear.

What kind of noise do you have and when do you hear it. It does not have bearing plates. Just top mounts for the struts. it has a dual a arm suspension int he front where the turning poitns are at the upper and lower ball joints. No bearing plate like found in a macpherson strut/spring suspesion

Its jard to explain. It sounds like somethings real loose hitting something else. Like if you put a screw in a box and shake. Like i said hard to explain. But people get in the car and think the wheels gonna fall off. O already had a stabalizer link replaced and the drivers ball joint. It just sound like something disconnected. any help would be great

ok, went to the dealer they told me I need new struts for the back.

Yet I talked to people here and say the LS doesn't have struts it has shocks.

I have a 2000 V8 Sport

Do I have shocks or struts or both????

I would say you should check the stabalizer bushing's a well known problem and thats how mine sounded., A updated stabalizer bar with bushing's permantly mounted is what you get. A pain to swap out, but the noise is cured.

LSes have coilover shocks. The difference is that if you remove a car's shocks, a car can still drive down the road, albeit with an exquisitely bouncy ride. If you remove a car's struts, a car isn't going anywhere, because you've just removed a crucial supsension component.

Of course, even Lincoln seems to use the terms interchangeably, so who the hell knows anymore.

Thanks Sooner,,, so the deler told me I need rear struts,, should I assume its really rear shocks and buy some shocks? orrr should I assume he ment struts and buy rear struts?

The dealer is using the terms interchangeably. What he meant was "shocks," because there are no true struts back there--a car either has shocks or struts, but not both (at least not on the same axle; I guess a given car could have struts up front and shocks in the back, or vice versa).

Essentially, true struts are load-bearing suspension components that also damp the bouncing; shocks (like what the LS has) are merely dampers.

Wow........just go to the parts store and tell them you need to order shocks/struts for your Lincoln LS! Is it that hard? If they give you crap about calling the shocks struts or the struts shocks........then it would follow the same logic as calling the poop sh!t.

Yep, just go to the parts store; they're probably not going to care if you ask for struts or shocks--they're just going to give you the correct parts. It's not like asking for a "control arm" when you may need a lower control arm or an axle.
