any of you have experience with shaving down your rims to get rid of scuff marks and scratches? i've talked to a few detail specialists and none of them do that service, they always say "oh i have this guy i know, but he's not very reliable..." heh. anyways just wanted to see what your experience is with this and if there's a certain tool you've used yourself to accomplish the same thing.

Trying to bump your post... But I've never heard of that. You could get them repainted, I don't think it would work because it would take the finish of the wheels off wouldn't it?

mine are aluminum not chrome, so might be easier to re-buff mine to get some of the natural shine back. my detail guy has told me about people who do this for some of his customers. he made it sound like they use a buffing tool, but at an intensity that will cut into the rim. if done properly they would cut the same amount off the entire circumference, leaving a brand new looking exterior. i'm going to ask around a bit more and try to get more info in the meantime...

I don't know if it's called "shaving your rims," but I have looked into this for my stock 17s. I was looking at aluminum wheel repair. There is a place by me that wanted $150 a wheel. Check out the Wheel Collision Center in Bath, PA. You can ship your rims there. They are a little expensive, but I hear they are the best. Go here for them http://www.wheelcollision.com/

Or you could try this and do it yourself. http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/wheel-repair/wheel-scuff-repair.htm

I was headed in the DIY direction, but I didn't want to mess with painting them. This is just informative, I am not telling you what to do. Good luck with whatever you decide.

yeah, poor choice of words there :P thanks for that link bro. i might have to call up NS Racing to see what paint would be most appropriate for my rims (the 'Vegas' model) but this is a great start.

Some tire/rim places do this. The rim can't be chrome plated though. As I understand it they just mill off the curb rash.
