First the clockspring.
My original clockspring had a grounding error but the horn/wheel controls worked. I bought a new wheel/motor/clockspring unit from greg and within a week everything had died except the motor controls and the blinker. (horn and cruise don't work... )
I'm not sure what I did wrong putting it in. The way I did it was I went lock to lock on the wheel to find dead center and then put it on the car. I hadn't moved the wheel before that when I got it from greg so either I did something or it was a faulty unit (no hurt feeling though greg.. still got a wheel ;-) )
So now I need to get inspected and have no horn. I could put my other clockspring back on but I would like to have the motor controls to the wheel so I'm thinking of buying a new/used one.
I understand the new ones come with something that locks the unit from spinning before you put them on so I'm guessing I wouldn't have a problem (if I could even find one new) but if I bought a used one or put the used one i have already I'm not sure If I'll mess it up. Does anyone know of a procedure to put on a used clockspring?
Ok, onto the second problem I have.
This one is suspension related. Over the course of 3 years I've replaced every front suspension part on my car. The only thing I haven't touched actually is the rear subframe bushings (I think). The steering rack is actually new also.
My car has twice sat for over 6 months at a time so I can't pinpoint when the problem I'm about to describe started happening but it was after the upper/lower control arms were replaced on front. Since then I've replaced everything else on the front.
The main problem is the alignment. The car pulls to the right and wears out the front left right(passenger side) on the outside quickly. Even after having it aligned at the best shop around it still is out of alignment. Since this started happening I've replaced the front strut bushings, outer/inner tie rod ends/sway bar end link (these are new actually). The mechanic last time I had the alignment done said (as he twisted the strut rod's inside their bushings) that they should not move. He also asked if when I changed the bushings if I had swapped the left and right strut rod. I honestly don't remember but aren't they exactly the same?
Ok, so also. I'm suspecting the left upper control arm to be loose or bad or something. I just put new roters on and when I hit the brakes and make the front end dive down I hear a creaking on the right? I just though about this today. I remember I inspected the boots just a couple weeks ago and they looked good so I'm wondering if there is a way to see if the thing is bad. Also, could a slighly loose upper control arm on the left cause the right wheel to wear?
Sorry about the length. Just wanted to write it all out and get some opinions. Thanks
