anyone ever tried to replace your seat belts? mine are cream color and are very dirty looking and i wanted to know if i should try to replace them or if its too much of a pain to do it. i was thinking to put a different color too.

not that hard to do. If you can get new ones for next to free replace them if not clean them

Look on ebay or contact someone who is aprting a car, just get all new belts all the way around. Its a somple unbolt and replace procedure.

Mine are ivory, I just took em out & washed em really good. They look like new now.

Thats one thing Ive been looking for, so many soak them in some simple green and a hard bristle brush and lots of elbow grease?

I've heard that's what's used. A guy bought a car on one of these boards a couple years ago, the previous owner must've worked in some shop and never washed the grease off his hands after work because his belts were pretty much black. And that guy cleaned them up like brand new. I was impressed.

hmm, well simple green has been a godsend to me, in the RC airplane hobby it wont damage the monokote

and it works wonders on painted surfaces

I have always been a bog fan of Scrubbing Bubbles. Great for removing road tar and anything else on the car. Also worked wonders on interior parts. Even use it at work for renew items that get A LOT of abuse. I probably go through 2 cans a month or more.

ok, ill try cleaning them first. anyone want to post a step by step on how to get them out? lol. looks like a real pain. seems like i will be taking out alot of plastics. also, my belts dont rewind too fast anymore, is that a easy fix or should i just leave that part alone?

Maybe it's cause they're all dirty?? And the only fix I can think is to clean the mechanism out if possible after the belts are out of the car. Then spray with wd-40 or some other lubricant, but make sure you don't spray onto the belt, or where the belt will touch after coiled back up. Just a thought.

Woolite works pretty good and wont hurt the integrity of the material!

If you want a set redone I had SSnake-oyl http://www.ssnake-oyl.com/ do a set for my 65 T-Bird and they came out better than new ($$pricey$$)!

ya i looked at that site before and thought about calling them. last week i pulled the back seats out to see what im looking at just to get them out, seems like just a few hours worth of work. i will try cleaning them first. i just need them to be some what clean, the way they look now im scared to wear a white shirt and wear the seat belt. :yuck:
