Just bought one from ebay with a couple of emblems (probably paid too much!) but its on the way.
The body shop at my school has a paint matching system and can take care of painting the grill to match my G2 LS.

I think I want to only paint the surround body color and leave the center black. Do I need to have them paint the center black or will the stock plastic hold up OK to the sun, rain, etc..?

I would recommend painting it black & clearcoat. The color it has when new is black but looks kinda cheap, like black plastic. I also cant see it holding up under the weather, it doesnt really have a finish to it.

The grille is just ABS plastic and should hold up to any weather conditions. I have several customer buy the grille without the center painted. I think painting it a gloss black would look a little better than leaving a flat color but its what you like.
