I have a 03 ls v8, I noticed a little problem withmy RPM's. When I put the cruise on at 100km, my RPM's were at 2000 on the nose. Now when I do this, my RPM's are just slightly higher than the 2000 mark. It's just above it... Has anyone experienced such a thing or can possibly give me a diagnostics on my problem? I hope it's as simple as a sticky caliper but I don't know?

Thanks for all your imput :P

The RPM gauge isn't 100% accurate; just like the speedo isn't. You will notice that sometimes the gauge will read above the computer controlled rev-limiter. That doesn't mean you've over-reved the engine because the computer controls the red line.

Don't worry about it. It could be as simple as tire wear or the engine getting cooler air this time of year and running better.

what about when the RPM's at idle drop in 200 rpm intervals 3 times? would this be a sign of a coil about to fail? when it drops the 3 times, i can hear a few bam-bang subwoofer bass sound come out the exhaust, the bangs are not continuous, and never at start up, usually after the car warms and idles.

Sounds like something's wrong. Could be a miss-fire or IAC failing.

Fluctuations in the gauge are usually a sign of something wrong.

So? I'm still going with tires.

Yes, a change in tire diameter would result in a change in RPMs at a particular speed. However, that can't be the issue here because it would also cause the speedometer to read differently too. The speedometer and RPM gauge will always be in sync no matter what the tire size is.

The three possibilities here are:
1. An issue with the tachometer.
2. An issue with the speedometer.
3. An issue with the transmission slipping.

Agreed, Joegr. But the guy seems to be intent on his tachometer, but probably (of course, now that i say it, he will swear he has been) never paid a lick of scrutiny to his speedometer aside from noticing its at 100kph.

~shrug~

Either way, some people worry about the goofiest things.

Perhaps you sit lower, or have your seat reclined more.

i have a 04 ls v8 and my rpm r a slight hair more then the 2 grand mark like it be 2100rpm and 100km witch on my car is like 60mph
