I have a 2005 Lincoln LS V8 Sport Package w/ 50,000 miles on it.

This is the third time it's been at Ford for a new coil in 6 months. One goes bad, they replace it. 3 times I been without a car for 2 days at a time. This is getting ridiculous, and I see this as a trend, other wise why else would they extend the warranty on ONE particular part?

Question is, am I going to have to face this till the warranty runs out? I foresee them replacing coils till 100,000 miles on it.

Pathetic...truley freaking pathetic.

Replace all coils and all spark plugs at the same time.

You have warranty so insist they replace them. And regardless theres a TSB on it.

Buy the coils yourself and take it to a local mechanic.

You can actually do it yourself if you have patience.

You may also need vale cover gaskets if it keeps happening.

You can insist all you want. Some dealers may do it, but Ford won't pay for it.

The newer rev coils seem to do better, but you seem to have some lemons. I didn't have any coil failures on my 04 until about 66K miles. My 06 is well past 70K miles, and so far so good.

If you have a good local Lincoln dealer, use them instead of a Ford dealer. Many Lincoln dealers will give you a free loaner if they have to keep your car for a day or more.

Hey Joe. He said these are updated coils, so they might not fail on me? Are they using the newer rev coils? Or are those aftermarket?

They replaced 3 coils so far, the other 3 he said are still good. =\
So therefore they will not replace them for me till they go bad.

Maybe just luck I have had a few replaced at 15k.

Not many around here do that. Only one local dealer that does loaners and there is usually a waiting list.

Yes, the dealers should only be installing the newer rev coils.

You wouldn't happen to know, when these rev coils came out do you? Mine is a 2005. Did they come on the 2005s?

No, I don't recall the actual latest rev. It's a letter stamped at the end of the part number. I think that they have now changed the actual part number. I am pretty sure that they have been rev'd since the 2005 production.

Thanks Joe.

So these newer ones they are putting on should be the updated Revs right? And they are better? And the ones I had originally , were probably the older Revs?

Probably.

Of course, I am unwilling to place any bets on how much longer the new ones may last.
