I have heard that it voids the factory warranty if a remote starter is not installed at the lincoln dealership. Is this true? I was thinking of having a shop install it, but i dont want to lose my warranty

It can't void the whole warranty, but because a remote start system affects a bunch of the car's systems, it could lead Lincoln to deny many types of warranty claims (if you make any). This is particularly true if you use an aftermarket unit; if they can say that a problem is caused by a botched install, it could possibly lead to denial of warranty claims even if it's a Ford/Lincoln remote start unit installed by a non-FLM shop...

Sooner is absolutely correct. However, I have seen several instances where the dealership denied a claim due to installation of an accessory item like this....when in fact it wasn't the culprit. They were unable to determine what the cause was and used that excuse to hide their ignorance.

In one case, I had someone remove the item they had installed...and take it back to the dealer because the issue was still there. Then they said he had screwed something up when he did the original install and going back to factory didn't mean anything. So I had him call the manufacturer direct. They got involved and had him take it to another dealer...which found the problem and fixed it...totally unrelated to the aftermarket item of course.

so if I have the aftermarket unit, the python 990, and I take it to the dealership and have them install it I should be fine right?

The dealer is going to claim that only accessories supplied from Ford are acceptable to them. But that's a crock. Buy a good, high quality unit and have it correctly installed...by anyone. Doesn't have to be by a Ford dealer. You should be fine.
