so when you remove the mirror (on the windshield) what all is involved. A guy my friend knows needs to replace one and I am not sure if its going to be a pain in my ass or pretty standard. I know its a first gen but not sure the trim level.

anyways I see if I can get more info tomorrow

thanks guys

For gen I (gen II is different):

NOTE: To avoid damage to the rain sensor
module cover, push up on the cover while rotating
the top of the cover toward the rear of the vehicle.
Remove the rain sensor module cover.
1 Pull the latch on the connector away from the
harness and disconnect the electrical
connector.
2 NOTE: When removing the rain sensor
module, it is necessary to apply inward
pressure on the module prior to releasing the
rain sensor module retaining slides.
Release the rain sensor module retaining
slides.
3 Remove the rain sensor module.
Disconnect the electrical connector.
Insert a small, flathead screwdriver into the mirror
base and remove the rear view mirror.

Installing a mirror is a bit of a pain as you are supposed to use "the special tool." I've been able to get channel locks to work as "the special tool."
