OK, I don't have rear deck speakers and I was wondering if I would want to get some what size should I get, would I be able to just install them under the crapet of the cover or would they be to big and would I need to have a speaker grill exposed. If I need a speaker grill exposed I dont even want it off the bat. I really want the hands on by doing it myself so I would rather just ask you guys some of these questions rather than take it somewhere to have them do it.

I don't want a box in my trunk cause I need all the trunk space I can get for a little while now and much like the thread I started before on my door speakers I just want something a bit better in quality and sound with a lower profile.

theres probably 6x9 holes back there already from the audiophile options, so if you want you could run some speaker wire and power them through an amp. I dont think you would see these as they are under the carpet.
If your up for some custom work, i know there are some subs out there that are 6x9 and even 7" circle ones, its all up to how much you want to get involved.

I can see from the trunk that there is holes but never any speakers, but are you saying that if I put some in it can stay under the carpet and not need a grill? I just don't wanna ruin the smooth look. Since I am adding speakers I would need a amp for sure?

I didn't even want to do this until I went out looking for the speakers for my door. I still may just say hey its good enough which I honestly think it is ( except the blown 6x8 ). I hate rattling doors and trunks and everything else. I think the LS's interior shape is great for what it has and I think any serious upgrades will just ruin it.

1)do you have a after market cd player?

2)if yes, then it should have pre-outs on the back of the unit specifically designed to add more speakers later. You would still need an amp.

3)if no, then you would need to somehow tie into other speakers wiring which i understand to be a pita

4)in the audiophile and THX option LS's the rear 6x9 speakers sit under the carpeting and you cant see them (readily) from inside the car.

I have the 6 disk changer in the glove box with the stock double din unit.

I keep forgetting to mention for specific options sake, its a 2000 sport.

if you really want to keep the stock radio (which i did also initially) then the only way to hook up some rear speakers or subs would be to tap off the speaker wire from one or two of the other stock speakers. This can get messy, and you will probably need an amp. If you're wanting to hook up another set of 2 or 3 way coaxial speakers, then this is possible. However, if you're wanting to hook up a set of small subwoofers in there, then this is a bad idea since you will be sending the full signal to the subs instead of just the right frequencies (I think).

Ok I got it, no subs really I just want to fill in the extra space and I guess if I do it I would go with the 6x9 3 ways and wire the right side from the right rear door, and the left side from the left rear door.

Thanks, thats what I needed to know. I wanna stay double din cause I think it looks like crap wth a single din head unit in its place at least untill I get the Navi.

The seats come out easy in the back so I think just wireing with the door and under the rear carpet is the only hard part, but I think I can do it.

Again,.... THANKS!

I wouldn't try to run both the rear door speakers and a set of rear deck speakers off the factory head unit. If you just run the rear deck speakers in parallel with the rear doors, the impedance to the amplifier in the head will be too low and it probably won't last very long. The factory systems had a separate amplifier mounted under the rear deck.

Whats the smallest amp I can run in this case? All I want in the rear deck is what fits as far as speakers and nothing extravagant.

the amp you need depends on the speakers you want, there are plenty of small amps that run less than 100 watts per channel. Im looking for a small amp too. to replace the factory one. Any suggestions anyone?

lol,.... I saw your question in my last speaker thread and that made me laugh a bit.;) :D

Looks good but not for my app. Its a bit expensive for what I want to do but it looks damn good.

oh and you can trace the cut outs that come with most speakers and cut them out with an exacto knife it is pretty easy
