I'll be installing a new head unit (Single DIN), amp, and sub to my LS this weekend. I don't have the Alpine factory system. My question is: Where to run the RCA cables? HOw do i remove the door sills? I think that's what i need to remove to get under the carpeting. Also, is the seat bolt a good enough ground?

Thanks in advance-

Pete

The sills just pull up. If you can run the rca's down the drivers side. Not that it will matter too much with just a sub but if you run your mids and highs rca's down the passenger side you will get some engine noise. seatbelt bolt is fine just scrap away some paint around the contact points.

Thanks! What about the factory disc changer in the glove box? Is that hard to remove/should i even remove it?

I had a little bit of engine noise running it down the driver's side as well as the passenger's side, so I routed the RCA's through the center console and underneath the carpeting between the console and the rear bench seat. The top of the console just pulls off and running the wires through the small strip of carpet and into the trunk was actually pretty easy to do. (plus you don't have to remove any door seals)

Either way is a pretty easy task. Which ever route you choose you will likely not hear any interference if you are using the amp for just a sub.

Thought I would through my .02 cents in.

Good luck!

Also, if you run HIGH QUALITY shielded RCA pre-amp wires (RCA's), you should be alright. But if you can keep a solid 1 foot between the pre-amp wires and any power wires, you should be pretty good. (of course, practically the entire car when running is an electromagnetic field)

Thanks everyone! Tomorrow everything goes in. Just one other question. I was reading the tech article for replacing the stereo, and it says to remove the upper dash vents. I'm assuming these are the ones that are just above the message center controls? And is it just removed by a pick tool?

Oh, and:

you have the Alpine system but you have a disc changer in the glove box?

Yes it is the vents with the message center controls just above the radio. Using a pick tool will be easy to remove it. Start at the top of the vents, it pulls out easier that way. then you will need to remove the ash tray below the climate controls, use the pick tool to pull the plate off then there is just 2 bolts to remove the ashtray and heated seat buttons(if equipped).
