ok so i know an ls wasnt made to race but...
well when i race at launch do
neutral drop?
just gas?
gas n brake?

should i leave it in..
d5
d4
or use tiptronic?

do i leave traction controll on or off?
would it make it faster?

any other tips? pls n thank you

I say traction off, in tip and in 1st gear. preferably light on fuel and with the spare out. punch it and adjust throttle for minimal wheel spin.

I've done some really awesome launches in the LS, if the wheels are slightly chirping and on the edge of spinning you're doing it right.

def neutral drop it if you want to f up the car and lose the race.

the only time I ever verb the word neutral drop is when I'm in a rental car or on a bike.

ay is yous a 6 or 8? i realize you got a sct...biggo difference or what?

oh yes almost forgot ..if im on tiptronic should shift at 5500 or 6000rpm?

Bring it to redline.

and put it on video.

what are you planning on racing anyway?

Good luck to your LS.

just for the future just to know before hand...

can i slap one on my v6? do i have to get it tunned or can i just connect it the day i get it?

Go reallly realllllly fast, in a straight line, then stop. Drag racing 101. :)

and if you wanna win, just go a little faster than the other guy.

That's Drag Racing 102: The art of winning.

:)

About all you really have to do in a stock LS is learn how to power-brake and when to bump the shifter to make it shift at the right RPM. For me it takes about a second from when I hit the knob till the tranny shifts. The rest is all dependent upon tuning of the car and reaction time of the driver on launch. I wouldn't expect a huge, if noticeable, variation in ET's between 5.5K or 6K shift. Your best area for improvement is going to be power-breaking/launch-control, and reaction time. After all, it's not like he's racing a pro-stock car.

I know its a completely different car but I pit my mark in 1st and stall it to 1100 and then floor it then let go of the brake at the same time I can launch on a 2000 jetta 5 speed with a cai and tune. I beat it if I launch on it if I don't he beats me  I'll gets a vid when I'm done my motor swap.

For me that seems to be around 1500-rpm, maybe higher, depends on the weather and track.

I have done ALOT of tiptronic runs, with my '06, just for fun. I have found that the trans. needs to be tapped a hair before red line. If it is not none in this manner I have noticed that there is a slight hesitation that sometimes kicks in the rev limiter. I guess, with enough practice that you tap point could be more exact. This is what I feel is the only way to determine your particular EXACT tap points. At first I was tapping right at red line and 30% of the time the rev limiter kicked in. Once you hit the rev limiter you have also lost any advantage you may have had just recovering the shift. On the traction control option, I get too much wheel spin with TC off. After more experience that will be mostly eliminated. Currently I use TC on and it still gets a huge tire chirp before actually hooking up. I feel the ONLY way to get the right formula on YOUR particular car is through ALOT of practice. I used a G-Tech meter a couple of times and both times were 6.5 sec. 0-60. I know there is alot more power to be had, at least 1/2 sec. faster than my time. Researching the Internet I have seen 0-60 times at 6 sec. That is really NOT bad being a bone stock, V-8, sedan. As you know there are computer tunes etc. that will give you even better times. That is my 2 cents anyway.
My '06 LS is BY FAR my most favorite car out of ALL of the cars I have owned. I am 50 yrs. old and have owned everything from a big block Mercury Cyclone to a 4 cyl. Ranger pick-up.

Yeah, on my car there is about a 1-second delay between slapping the shifter and the tranny doing it's thing. On a drag that means I have to hit the shifter around 5K or so to get a shift around 6K or so. Seat time will tell you what works best for you. Just keep changing things slowly and in small steps to see what gives you the best numbers.

Holding against the brake doesn't work well with the LS. I hold it just to get consistent r/t's. 1000-1200 at most, even lower, you will find the idle wants to jump up higher but it will settle down with practice. Its called flashing the converter. Finding where to hit the shift is important as it is easy to over shoot it and hit the limiter which is only 250 over the redline, stock tune. I don't think nailing 6500 is key, power seems to fall after for sure I've gone close 7k several times. You may be more consistent to just let it shift, the only advantage to SST is the firmer shift will improve time, if tuned with a firmer shift there is no need really to use it. D4 or D5 doesn't seem to make a difference. And TC off always.
