Now that I've installed the new wheels, I noticed a major difference in the ride. #1, I hate it..lol..I really think I've sacrificed the luxury of the ride with the new 20's. I do realize I am now rolling on 35 series tires, but I was not expected the drastic change.

So, now my question is: Is this common with wheel upgrades? Not only does it ride rougher, it sounds like I have Mickey Thompson mudders on the car now..lol..I tried to let some air out of the tires down to 30 psi for each and that did little. I also notice now a lil shakiness in the steering wheel at higher speeds. It doesn't feel as stable anymore. It is not a rubbing or spacing issues. The offset is correct. I am scratching my head as to what could be causing this.

The tires are Nankang 245/35/20. I love the look, don't get me wrong. Could it be that I need an alignment and have the wheels rebalance on the car? I recently serviced the car and had an alignment done with the factory set. It is all suttle things, nothing major but it's enough to concern me. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

The larger the wheels the smaller the side wall.

So, if you wanna keep the factory overall diameter you WILL sacrifice quality.

You could get taller sidewalls but you then will be lager than the stock diameter.

That plays games with the cars speedo and crap.

I also must say those Nankangs suck!

ehhhh when I went to 20's I didnt see that big a difference. I ddo have some damn expensive tires though. maybe thats the difference.

It will help but logic must rule.:p

Blame it on that bastard logic. I hate it.

ok so back to topic here... JW is right. but the actual tires you wrap your wheels in will make a difference. If you want a better ride, upgrade your tires, down size your wheels, or both

I know those Nankangs are hard ass tires which is probably contributing to it the most.

My LS is in pristine condition @ 38,000 miles so I know its not the car. My wife hates how much time I put into it so that should tell you something. I am thinking that the tires do need to be upgraded. They are nice looking but they run hard as hell. Again, it is 35 series cheap tire. I will probably do another alignment while I'm at it.

The LS takes to 20s pretty good IMO. The ride is going to change for sure but I'm fine with how mine rides on the 20s.

My MarkVIII ride was alot more affected when I put the 18s on it....they are wide though.

It's the tires. I'll bet anything on it as far as the sound you're hearing. They are garbage. I had them on my KMC 18s.

Are you sure the wheels are balanced correctly? Sure they're not bent? That could also be the tires giving you the shimmy.

But yes, putting new wheels on your car will affect it's ride. It's a lot harsher due to the smaller sidewall.

+1 on the brand tire makes a big difference..also like JW said changing to a smaller sidewall with make a difference too but I would just get some new tires

New tires it is. The rims were inspected carefully for bends, cracks, etc..They are clean as a whip. They do need to be properly balanced to my car however. What is the best tire to invest in? I was thinking Toyo Proxes 4. I had a set on my Mazda 626 back in the day. 215/40/18. They felt better than the stocks. What are u guys rolling on?

If you wanna stick with Toyos get the T1R's. They kick the Proxes 4's ass. IMO the 4s are trash and over rated especially when compared to the T1R.

Other than that I highly recommend the Vrdestiens like NYC's.

Also does your wheel require hub rings? Some wheels with the LS you need to get hub rings.

Arent yours the re drills?

If so that might be the problem. Not that re drills are all bad but they may have slipped up a bit on one or ore holes.

Could that cause a shimmy?

ok so someone has to let me try their Vrdestiens out! I have the Toyo T1-Rs and they are retardedly good!!!! I love em! They actually grip better on wet pavement, handle like champs, and even though my backs are a 30 series are quiet and comfortable! They are kinda pricey, but the feel so good if they made condoms from them I would actually wear one! LMFAO

if you didn't re-tighten your lugs then that could cause the shake....
