Question: x-cal ECU flashing question about cooling issue

Have replaced everything except the water pump and temp sensor. Have had a coolant pressure test done (passed). Mechanics said that a compression test would not be conclusive if it's intermittent and testing for exhaust chemicals in the coolant, from the symptoms I'm having not be conclusive.

I'm wondering. I flashed the ECU to a 98 Mark when i got the car and firmed up the tranny shifts. Could this be the root of my issue?
 
If so... how do I get the ECU info for a 97 back? I'm betting I would need another 97 Mark VIII LSC.
 
You can return to stock with the X-Cal. But I am guessing it may not help.
 
I don't want to because I can't return it afterwords but I guess I'll replace the water pump

yes you can, it's easy.. like I said if you dont feel confident doing this yourself.. lemme know and I'll help you.

this will take about 5 minutes and would remove that doubt from your mind.

I doubt you have a coolant temp sensor issue, as the guage IS working, and the PCM and the guage share the same sensor on a second gen.

I agree with what everyone else said.
There is really no way the "tune" is the root of this evil you face.

As I said on the phone, you need to run the "Dye test" and see if you have combustion gases in the coolant system.

THAT will be a difinitive test, and I absolutely understand the results of this test might lead you down a path you dont want to travel, but... it doesnt change the fact of "it IS what it IS".
