My 01 V8 Sport came with 4 Michellin Pilot Sport 2 Tires 235-50-17

About a year ago I changed the Tires and mounted 245-45-17

My Question is: Can I Mount 255-40-17 Tires and they will not affect me???

Thanks

255/40's are too wide for the stock rims.

I have 255/45's with no rubbing and Im dropped 2" inches too.

I will be getting rid of my 255/45/17's soon for dirt cheap with 50-60% tread left for like $100 for all 4.

I jut purchased 19x8 rims with 42mm offset and 255/40/19's on the rear with 245/40/19's on the front

Tire Shops here in PR tell me that i should mount 255-40 instead of 255-45

Yeah, then you wouldn't want to go any wider than a 235 tire. I run 235/45s on 17x8 wheels on my SHO and they're about perfect together. I think the ideal rim width for a 255 tire is more like 8.5" or 9". The Tire rack site would have that information.

Depends on the tire ultimately... I had no problems with 255/45/17's on my car. I would've got the same size but the new tires I bought didn't have that size... so I went with the OEM optional size of 245/45/17.

IIRC, 255/40 and 255/45 are the same width... the sidewall and rotational value are different.
