Problems after installing Kurtz Kustom Motorsport V8 Intake

Hi,

I have a 2000 Lincoln LS V8. I recently installed a KKM (Kurtz Kustom Motorsport) air intake. A few days later I got a "Check Transmission" error.

I was really concerned so I took my car to a transmission specialist. The diagnostic computer got numerous error codes but there was nothing mechanically wrong with the transmission. The mechanic suggested me to remove both positive and negative battery cables and touch them together to fully discharge the electrical system and purge the error codes from the system.

This got rid of the error message for a few days but returned.

Has anyone experienced this, or similar probems, after installing an air intake?

Also, any suggestions before I re-install the factory Air box?

Well, first of all the KKM induction kit would have no way of harming your transmission. The check transmission code is probably a coincidence. Just changing the air filter will not cause your car to have transmission problems. I would suggest that you take it to the dealer and have them look at it. Also, if you do that don't tell them "oh, this started when I put this new filter on here". That will just give them a reason to blame it but trust me when I say that can in no way affect your transmission. However, if you put the filter on and started doing donuts in the local parking lot now since you have more power might make sense.
 
I understand that. Could a malfunction of the MAF sensor cause errant readings to the computer to cause this behavior? This is the only sensor that was removed when I installed the Air intake.

Was the battery disconnected when you installed the adapter/filter combo?

It really doesn't matter. One doesn't have anything to do with the other. It's more of a coincidence than anything else.
 
I removed the negative prior to installation.

Could excess oil from the filter have collected on the MAF sensor causing these problems?

If so, how do I properly clean the MAF sensor?

No, you wouldn't get a transmission light because of a MAF problem. Ken is right, just a coincidence. The filter has nothing to do with the transmission.
I find it hard to believe that the MAF would get enough oil to cover the MAF that fast. You just did the install. I not like the filter was dripping with oil, right.
 
No. I installed the Air Filter as delivered from the vendor. How would I go about cleaning the MAF safely?
