Power Steering Flush/Refill

put the car on jackstand securely witht he front wheels off the ground, go to the rack on the driver side and find the 10mm bolt holding the power steering lines in, remove the 10mm

Pull the lines out of the rack (make sure you have a drain pan under the car first)

Let them drain, then turn the wheels (by grabbing the wheel/tire itself and turn it from lock to lock to till you force all the fluid out of the system.

Then reconnect lines and fill the power steering resivior. (on the driver side of the car)

then turn the wheel lock to lock while the car is still in the air with the engine off to help get some of the air out.

then make sure its full. Start the car and let it run for a few little bit, it will probably make noise. Turn it off after about 15 seconds and let it sit for a minute.

Then make sure its full start it up again and turn the wheel some, repeat untill the noise goes away.

gl its not that bad to do.

2 quarts should be enough, you can use motorcraft mercon V. Its good to change the fluid, it should be done once a year in my opinion, I dont think you will notice too much of a difference.

Just like any other fluid it gets dirty and gummed up, if you have alot of miles like over 50k and its never been done there is always the risk of leaks after words.

I havent done this yet...66k miles on my 02. But Im thinking a better way for me would be to siphon the reservoir dry, replace with fresh fluid...drive for a day or two,and repeat process.

problem is theres a lot more fluid in the system than you can get out of the resevoir. the cooler...cooler lines...rack...
