Power Steering Fluid....EVERYWHERE

Hey guys,

I picked up my LS almost 2 months ago. Yesterday I hit a bump on my way home from work and a few moments later I started getting the "WAH WAH's".

Power steering fluid low.

Didn't realize the extent of the problem until i put 32oz of power steering fluid into the reservoir and approx all 32oz pissed right out onto the pavement from the rubber boot that I think is the tie rod end; front driverside. That side has been a little squeaky for the past couple weeks but that bump in the road finished the job. Something is definitely broken.

At least i'm still covered under dealer warrantee. AAA towed it this morning...the LS gone for now, tho

God bless those warranties cause this :q:q:q:q ain't cheap to fix

The Lincoln LS doesn't us power steering fluid in its power steering, use automatic transmission fluid, read all about it in your owners manual. If you don't have a owners manual you can down load it from the TECH SECTION at the top of the page, you may want to read before you do self induced damage.

Yep a guess you are right. MERCON ATF. Great. So I put in all that stuff and possibly caused more damage. Great. Live and learn i suppose. Either way i dont have to pay for it tho.

Unless they prove neglect buy you using wrong fluids, no warranty for ignorance.

You didn't add any damage, it sounds like it all came right back out.

They won't be able to tell that you used power steering fluid instead of Mercon, they're too similar. Don't worry.

If you tell them about the bump, they may consider it impact damage. The warranty wouldn't cover that. You'd have to fight with your insurance and you'd have to cover the deductible.

Turns out it was the rack and pinion steering rack that went on the car. They are fixing that, tie rod ends and the catalitic converter (bank 1)... still no wheels tho. I've been bootin' around in my girlfirends Toyota Tercel. lol
