I'm plannin on doing a tune up and replacing the fuel filter this weekend, but I'm a novice, and would like any pointers before I get started. I found a tech article for the filter, which is tougher to get to than i originally thought, but oh well.......but haven't found any tech art for the tune up. The front four look easy enough, but the other four, back two especially look like they require a few prep. steps. I'm really wanting to know what has to be removed, ie: throttle body and or intake manifold. Thanks for the help.

what are you talking about front 4? Spark plugs? The only thing you have to worry about with the spark plugs is that they are deep so you'll need an extension. No clearance problems. Not much else you can do for a "tune up" on these things. I mean you can clean the throttle body and some other things but its more of a replace when you need to basis.

remove intake tube, remove coil covers, unplug coils, take coils out, take spark plugs out....all you need to get to them is an extension like Jibit mentioned....no need to mess with the intake manifold or anything.... "installation is the reverse of removal" lol......i love seing that line in every service manual :D .........before changing plugs if you want spray the throttle body with cleaner and run some seafoam, then you get to enjoy the smoke show

Also make sure you get yourself some anti-seize to coat the threads with on the new plugs as well as dia-electric grease for the plug boots

After Doing That Crazy Stuff Like They Mentioned
Change Oil Filter, oil Change, check Tranny Fluid, all Fluids In That Matter, check For Leaks... Check Belts And Hoses...it's Gonna Be Spring Time Soon Got To Get That Baby Running Right And Tight,OH since you gonna be under there...check your undercarriage, like front and rear end for any play and movment or rot.. that shouldnt be there. things tend to get a lil loose and worn...good luck!

when it comes to tunes up...i dont play...i make sure everything is nice n tight..and taken care of..so theres no unsupected surprises....the unexected surprises come when you let sshhit go...and people start whining why did this or that happen...when inspecting and tuning up time come around i beleive in checking everything.!

How many miles do you have on your car Gina, and what kind of driving do you do? "They" recommend lots of stuff, but proper maintenance is mileage/time/application dependent and nothing else.

When I looked at the title of this thread quickly, I thought it said "points" for tune up.

also when you remove your coils be sure to check for oil on the boots cuz if there is then your spark plug hole gaskets are leaking and causing the boots to fail any oil present i sugest replacing the boots or you will have probs later on also when you install the coils and boots spray the boots with silicone spray to ease with installation ive had ones where the boots break during an install besides that its easy

I would do new spark plugs, boots and possibly coils, new fuel filter, coolant flush with new thermostat (don't want the stock one to get stuck shut on you), Mercon 5 flush, power steering flush, new brake fluid, and air filter. Now that's a real tuneup...
