So i scored me an Xcal2 from sct. What can i expect to gain from this and where should i start tweaking. i didnt really uncover much in the seach features on settings and ish like that. of course im always willing to take the lashings if proved wrong..

so those of you use sct xcal. what settings do you use and what difference has it made?

It's just not about getting an Xcal that makes the differnce. Its the tune that is inside of it. Your best bet would be to talk to someone like Lonnie at Blue oval chips. He has always helped me out.

You can use it to get codes, clear codes.
I use mine to install new a tune, and or got back to stock.
Plus it makes fun noises has my name one it :)

PM Brandon "kustomizingkid" he plays with my sct helps this old man new tricks.
You can buy a tune, and use it to install it.
You know...or you wouldn't have bought it. ;)

He is sitting in a city near a "Tuner", who was one of the first to go out and support the Mark Vlll, is located. I would have taken my car there instead of buying a high priced code reader.

who?

i thought the xcal came with tunes and let you adjust certain settings. i guess i didnt read the fine print didnt understand it was just a flashing only device

He's talking about Reinhart, whom in my opinion should be avoided. That putz still owes me money from his screw up. I can't stand him, nor would I ever want to meet him in person as it wouldn't go well at all with the way he treated me and acted so unprofessional. He yelled at me literally like a 5 yr old having a hissy fit when his bank screwed up and bounced a cheque to me, then still shorted what was owed to me afterwards (this only took 6 months to get too! lame...)

I got my sct xcal2 today. im stocked. started installing the software and the thing detected as trojans. anyone else come across that. im sure it has to be a false positive.

I was under the impression that you can change shift points, Rev limiter, idle speed, and other general driveablility characteristics with just the tuner, however to get the most out of it a tuner can program a tune into it for your specific app
Can someone clear this up for me as this is going to be my next purchase. The tuner is 400 beans plus the tune. What is the typical charge for the tune? And who has had good results and from what tuner? Thanks guys.

it says i have 5 unlocks on it. and its open. but i cant use it apparently. it just sits there with the power msg time out error. ive pulled the 2 fuses it said i need to. if i dont have the fuses pulled it tells me it cant unlock the ecu. also it has a semi tuner software. but i need an xlr file to tune on.

You need a tune file from someone like Lonnie or Torrie or Reinhart etc first and then you can tweak settings like you mentioned in it. Or if you have the knowledge and extra stuff/equipment (I don't know what exactly, but others would) then you could make your own tunes for it to muck with...

Ya but if I can't get it to upload a basic 91 octain profile I wont be able to get it to load the customs tune either. I need to find out why it is timing out during the upload

If you call one of the SCT dealers listed above they will be able to set you on the right path. You cant just buy a tuner and expect it to work. They have to be set to the car.

really. from what i read it should work with any ford its just the custom tune files is what needs to be set to computer code. ill give my local sct dealer a call. thats great advice thanks

You need to see if you have the key for your PCM (the PCM code is printed on the side).

So i found that i have to local sct dealers in my area. one of them wouldn't touch my hand held but offered to custom tune my car for 300 dollars.

The other. took my hand held checked the strategy of my computer said give me 5 minutes. came back out hooked it up to my car and loaded what he referred to as the "hot" file said if it was to much then go back and load the 87 or the 89 profiles and i should be good. When i told him i picked up the tuner so i could adjust the rev limiter and speed limiters and play with the shift points he said well hold on and ill be right back. off he went and came back loaded up the hand held again told me to work off the "hot" file and said now you can go and adjust all the settings for each one right from the device. so basically he went and unlocked all the options on that tune so i can do the tuning right from the hand help instead of having to have the .xlr and the software to edit it. total cost was 50 bucks

Already i noticed that my shift points are higher. the shifts feel a ton better as well. I have yet to WOT on it but i am looking forward to hit. the idle is different as well. over all it feels like a different car thats for sure.

well sh1t i take back what i said above. i think i got screwed out of 50 bucks. i finally had a chance to stomp the pedal and find out what difference it and my stock tune smoked the crap out of it. its not possible to have a chip on your ecu and then try and hand held tune the computer is it or maybe the computer already had a custom tune and i downloaded it off as the stock tune on the new hand held.

All i know is under light driving conditions the first gear was nice 2nd gear was alright. then i started paying attention. it kicked gears only about 500rpm higher then my stock but it also drove at mph 500 rpm higher then my stock settings.

When i tried to go WOT. thats where i really felt the shaft in the ass. first gear kicked over at about 4500 rpm and right about 5mph. then about a split second later. as softly as can be 2nd gear rolls by and then a second later 3rd rolls by. next thing i know im struggling to make 70-75mph the engine never really hit that WOT state no matter how hard i pushed it to the floor. its like the shift points were lower then the first gear shift point. i was so ticked off. i couldnt even get it to kick WOT and give me that lovely sound you get when the engine opens up wide.

I replaced my stock tune went back out for another ride. sure enough i stomp on the gas and before i knew it was at 70 and climbing and the engine was screaming in pure bliss. sigh. this sucks hopefully ill find a way to get my moneys worth out of this little tuner sooner or later.
