I just got my yellow top from amazon for 169 bux new. I know I have to vent it but was wondering if I can install the yellow top and drive it over to home depot without the vents to get the venting parts and be ok? I figure it only vents if it has to, and doesn't always vent gases, but I just wanted to make sure before I did it.

I didn't have mine vented for probably close to a week. Don't remember exactly how long, but I'm sure you'll be fine. You are right, it only vents when it has to, and only in extreme/rare cases. I wouldn't worry about it one bit.

you said you used a 2 part epoxy on the base of the battery..... what do you mean?? does the whole battery need to be glued down to the floor??? i only purchased the 100% silicone sealant do i only use that to seal the tube to the 3/4 inch vent on the battery??/ or do i use it on other places too?

I used silicone where the vent tubes meet the battery. I used 2 part epoxy where the vent tube meets the trunk floor (where the old vent tube connected to the trunk floor.)

ok, but I only have the silicone, I should be fine using it for both right?

also, it looks like there is a black cap in the vent holes on the battery... that gets removed right?

Well, I used epoxy on the trunk because its a lot stronger bond, and cures a lot faster. I suppose silicone may work, I just don't know how well it will hold there. Worst that happens is you have to redo it with epoxy.

I never removed anything. Looks almost like a sharpening stone material right? charcoal/silver colored? I left that there.

yes, stone type... maybe a filter then I guess, thanks man, I am starting to seal it up now, I went to lowes and got the EXACT same parts you have...:)

I've used a red top Optima for better than three years, and never have bothered to vent it. The factory vent is now connected to my methanol cell, mounted where the spare originally went.
