Passenger airbag on/off?

This is on an '04 LS. If I read the manual correctly the airbag on the passenger side should automatically turn off when there is a child in the seat. I verified under the passenger seat that it had the decal the manual talked about. It didn't say anything about a light or a way to tell when the airbag is turned off, is there a way to tell? Is there a manual switch to use? Thanks for your help.

The passenger seat airbag is weight sensitive, no light,no manual switch, and no way to tell.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of

Has anyone ever installed an indicator light or had one installed by the dealer? My wife is not comfortable putting a child in that seat without some type of indicator. Not that it is very often but sometimes we need to haul extra kids to the game etc.

I'm sure she has her reasons for putting the kid in the front seat, but isn't the rear seat recommended more than the front seat?

Yes, kids alway ride in the rear seat. There are sometimes occcasions when she would like to be able to haul neighbor kids to the baseball game etc and there isn't enough room for them all in the rear seat. The only other alternative is to get an SUV or minivan with a 3rd row seat which I was trying to avoid.
