alright, so im due up for inspection this month.. and im in line just playing around with things making sure everything works.. then i test the parking brake. Put it in D5, hold brake, pull up parking brake (2003 ls, electronic), and proceed to lightly mash the gas and my car took off. Soon after the lever light logo with exclamation point lit up permanently (and is still on while the car is off), and a service parking brake message came up on the message console.

so i u-wee'd out of there and came home.

i disconnected the battery to see if that would clear any issues, but i doubt it.
this has happened before, and it happens randomly.

i could go out there tommorrow and it work fine.. then some days i can hear the parkin brake motor "wuurr wurr wuur" then errors.

any solutions? i got no money for repairs AND a $100 tag.

I get the "service parking brake" every once in a while on my 2004. So far it has always just cleared itself after a driving cycle or two.

BTW, it was operating as designed as you described it. If you press on the gas pedal, the parking brake automatically releases.

Have a look at the emergency brake lines on the rear calipers. Mine would give me that message once in a while, then one day I noticed the plastic tab holding the driver's side cable onto the caliper was broken, so it wouldn't work at all. Great idea by Ford using plastic on a part that's supposed to hold tension against metal.

i reconnected the batt and the errors gone so is the yellow "!" on the brake button

but its still disengaging and jumping off when i mash on the gas a little
i just cant remember what i did last year or if it even mattered if our cars were built to automatically disengage like that..

i'll check out that plastic tab, lol.. friggin ford.. no surprise.

"but its still disengaging and jumping off when i mash on the gas a little"

Both my 04 and my 06 do this. This is the way the book says it is supposed to operate.

Well, if it works, then that's probably not the problem...although I'm sure that's soon to come after this many years. I believe there is a TSB out there for the parking brake. I could swear I read it somewhere before. Something about a module needing to be re-programmed or some crap. Maybe try searching here or doing a Google search would help ya.

Yes, there was a TSB on it. I think it called for the entire E-Brake assembly to be replaced.
