I brought my '02 v6 ls to a body shop to see what they'd charge to paint the chrome bumper strips black, and how exactly they'd do it. They said they'd just buy two new strips, sand those down and paint them and then take the old ones off and put the new ones on. Has anyone taken the chrome strips off and been successful in putting them back on? I saw in other threads that people have just left them on, taped up the car and painted them. I just don't feel I'd get in the crevices at easily as if they were off the car completely. Also, the body shop said they make their own paint, has this worked out for anyone or should I buy the exact paint for my car and have them use that.
For pricing, they said both strips would total about $135, and then sanding and painting them would be about two hours labor. With that and the paint supplies, they estimated about $250 Anyone have any other options?

I was going to do this also, but I decided not too. I got chrome wheels and it kind of matched up with the chrome strips. The alternative would be too buy a body kit to replace both the front and rear bumpers. The LSE kit sure does look nice

You could always replace the Front and Rear bumper skins with some Sport bumpers. They are on eBay alot. Although they run about $200 each, then you'd still have to get it painted.
