So who thinks this idea will work and look good and who thinks it will look like crap. I was wondering since im a broke college student, but obsessed with my mark, would it be possible to spray the rims my self with chrome spraypaint. I like the snowflake style rim, but i have a 93 and the aluminum is somewhat becoming dull. Also there is like permanant brake dust stains in the little grooves so i thought this might be a good idea. I figured i would use a flat black to prime it the spray a few coats of decent quality chrome spray. Anyone do this before?

you can get chrome paint that actually looks real, but its big $$, so not that good for a broke college student, i think silver or maby a charcoal might look good................................hey mine r silver (factory paint)

I recently heard from a good friend with a powdercoat shop that there is chrome powdercoat that is actually turning out decent now. It was attempted previously but results sucked so it wasn't available, I guess.

I wouldn't think it would turn out no matter what, but, he is as picky as I am, and I take his word for it. So you might want to check into that, or send me a pm and I will give you his address. He might send you some pics of a finished "chrome" powdercoat job. I'm sure it doesn't look as good as chrome, but it must be close.

I'm not sure how much a four wheel job would cost, but if you're going to go the route of polishing the outside edges, and painting in between the spokes silver, or having them powdercoated, don't blast them. There is some aluminum stuff I saw another friend use once for stripping a pourus set of enkei shoguns before hand polishing them, and it cut through EVERYTHING. I can find out the name of the product if you decide to try something other than blast/paint.

Either way I agree....... chrome spraypaint is not the way to go. Maybe it would last for a short while if you scuffed it good and threw on 3 coats of clearcoat, but it's doubtful that you would get an even application let alone without runs.

Pm me if you need info, cause I might forget about this thread.

Have you tried really, really, really cleaning & polishing them?

If you can get them cleaned up once, you could spray them with some clearcoat to help keep the dirt out of the grooves.

If you are determined enough to get them clean, none of those stains should be permanent.
