I noticed the other day that zephyr's have painted keypads and the OEM unpainted plastic one on the LS's take away from the car looking complete.

Is it possible to buy one from ford or get one from a wreck and replace it without too much trouble (computer issues, ect..)

Ford keypad assemblies (as far as I know) are just a set of switches and some LED backlights. They may even have the same connector from one model to the next, but I can't promise that. In any event, the last one I changed out (on a Grand Marquis) was easy to take apart and put back together, so you should be able to just replace the painted faceplate.

Someone looked into this last year and discovered that the two keypads are not interchangeable (they're different sizes or shapes or both). IIRC, he wound up painting his keypad to match.

I like having my keypad black. I think it looks good w/ the tinted windows and black trim around the windows. It accents it nicely, just my 2 cents though.

well ill order one from a black zephyr and let take a before and after.

The Zephyr one won't work. I tried it. In the end I just painted the surround. I taped off the buttons and the car and sprayed away with paint I got from paintscratch.com.

Actually it's Dark Cherry. It's the flash and the angle that makes it look pink.

Did you do primer and clear also or just clear or neither?

I just cleaned it up real well, painted it and cleared it. I should have done more prep work like primer, but I was just experimenting. It doesn't look too bad so I just left it.

what made it not work?

Mounting? electric?

Yes. The unit is wired backwards (and upside down) from the LS unit (you would have to re-wire it to work), and it's the wrong size.
