I'm in the middle of painting the Mark and was going to ask for some opinions. I really don't need to hear don't do it. The car has been disassembled and we are starting to wet sand tomorrow. I was originally going with the top design but, came across something that made me come up with the second option. Just wanted to see what some of you thought looked best. The last 2 are the new idea. As for the first trunk shot, I have decided I don't like the black on the back of the hump. The pictures aren't very good (I'm no Chip Foose) but, it gives you the idea.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The first design would look prety dang good if you ask me.

I know you said you don't want to hear don't do it, but the pic with the trunk blacked out on the "tire" hump is just ugly.

Yea, I stated that in my write up in the post, that I canceled out on that idea. Thanks for the other words though. I hope it turns out well.

Im not saying dont paint your car, but I am saying dont paint it like that, It atracts so much attention, and if you ask me in a negative way.

Cars painted like that (mostly 4 cyl) are the kinds of cars that me and my buddies point at and laugh when we see rollin down the highway

Nitrobasher ( I guess that means you out run cars with nitro)Just couldn't resist a negative comment could you? Is it the strips or the two tone that has caused you problems. I'm actually trying to bring some old school into the paint job. Do you know where the concept (strips) came from that started me in this direction? I'm doubting it. It's probably 20 years before you were born. It comes off a BIG CAR, not some ricer.

I really used to enjoy this board. but it seems anymore there are just so many negative statements around here it takes a lot of that enjoyment away. True its an open form and everyone has the right to say anything they want to and do. Even after saying in my post I really didn't want to here any of it. Then again, I should have expected it. Doesn't anyone want to chime in and point out that I spelled something wrong or didn't use the right punctuation? I know there is someone out there that is just waiting for a reason to show everyone how smart they are.

I was taught if you can't say something good or add something constructive, then keep my mouth shut. I guess I'm from a different day. Today everyone thinks they know what's best and can't wait to tell everyone else. Nitro, thanks for your opinion but, It doesn't mean jack to me. If you can tell me what car this concept comes from, I will have a bit more respect for your opinion. I don't really think I have to worry that when someone looks at the car, when it's done. Will think ooooohhh, just some little ricer four banger. BTW are you still beating the hell out of your ride? Thanks anyway but, I'm going to have to pass on your opinion. It did nothing to help me with the concept I going for. There for it is useless to me.

Thanks for playing, Next.:)

I like the first one. Kinda looks like an old Cuda stripe. Don't worry about Nitro, his ignorance is only surpassed by his lack of BMX skill. In the end, whatever you choose is cool for you. I don't think it looks "rice" at all (I think that is what he was saying). I might go with different colors, but I think the idea has some potential. Good luck.

Effing Hippie... CUT YOUR HAIR NITRO... oh and get training wheels

I like the stripe... and the two tone... Looks like old schools mixed with the "sleek and sexy" of the mark viii

I have always wanted to do a two tone... maybe this mark will be it

I say GO FOR IT... CONNECT FOUR! LOL!

Something like this... but with the body lines of a mark

rmac694203 Cuda, BINGO!! Picking the colors is by far the hardest part. As well, it could be potentially fatal to the look of the car. The car is Bright Toreador Red. So, I'm going with the same color on the lower half. That way I will not have to do all of the jams. The top color, I haven't decided yet. Right now it's between a Cream/silver/metalic, Gun Metal or Black. I have a friend who owns a sign company and I have decided to go with vinyl. To give it a factory look like the newer charger and others cars through out the years. A Mate Black is my fist choice and it also opens up the possibility to change to a solid line or lightning bolt or anything else that might come around in my head.

Stack, That's funny!:) Yea. That's a great example. That is exactly the idea.

I noticed K-Town My name is William G. Fruehling I've got a little German in me (there is a joke in there somewhere)

I appreciate the input guys, any other suggestion that help move this thing forward. Bring it on.

Thanks again guys,:Beer

Here is a Camaro I did back in 1982. I used vinyl back then for the ULTRA Z lettering. I have a small write up in my photo garage about the car. Some drunk hit me coming back from our illegal drag strip one night and totaled it. It was a Silver with 3 different light to dark Silvers for the stripes with a Blue Pearl shot over everything. I loved that car. The piece under the front bumper was removed and was set up as a High Boy style. The picture really doesn't do the car justice.

Old School Guy

Ya see the funny part about this "old school guy" is even if it was used on old cars, the ricers still use it today, and you can not deny that you see more of these types of paint jobs on a 4 cyl, then you do any american muscle car.

second, you made yourself sound like a complete ass just now, "I guess that means you out run cars with nitro" No dumb ass, Nitro as in NitroFuel (RC cars). So lets see, thats two seperate times you have made ur self look stupid. moving on.

Did you or did you not ask for critisism, or what other people thought? I told you my oppinion. In the begining of this thread you said dont say "dont do it" and if you would take a sec to read my post, I said Do the paint job but with a different scheme.

( I believe were up to 3)

And last I love how you are trying to be looked at as some godly mark viii owner, Truth is bro yes I still drive my car hard, Yes I do take it to the track, and Yes I pay for the things with MY money. Not my parents but mine.

So I could use this part to try and make good with you, or apologize but I dont feel it neccesary, instead of just taking my oppinion and moving on you decided to show your seniority by "trying" to put me down. I hope some time through your useless waste of time writing that you realised, hey this is the internet, why do I care what he thinks, But you probably didnt

cya later bbuuudddy ;)

Just remember Mark VIII's are not rice... Don't make it look like a Ricer...

Solid Colors... Maybe something unique like 94m5's old 95... but don't Rice it out with something gaudy..

Rich, I've been reading your post for a long time. I respect you. I have owned the car sence 97 and I'm 42 years old. I'm not into ricers at all and I really don't think this will look like a ricer. These are just rough drawings. Try to envision it with a quality paint job and done with care. The Cuda is exactly what led me to this concept. A big long car. I have stated the colors I intend to use. Do you think this is gaudy? I think its bring an old design to a new platform. I agree 94m5's car is awesome but, I want to do something a little different from just an awesome paint job. I could be wrong but I haven't seen anyone try anything different except going way out there. I believe this is pushing it a bit but, if no one ever does it how do we grow. That is why I posted this. I wasn't going to post because I could already see people saying oooowww nnnoooo! But, I decided it couldn't hurt to get some other ideas on the design I had created. Your post is the perfect example of someone that may question the concept of this. It was worded with consideration for the other person. Thank you. Honestly, when it's finished and if I start getting comments that it looks like a ricer. It will be going back to the booth for a solid color paint job. Trust me on that.

Thanks again for your input Rich,

Greg

That paint would draw eyes in the Tokyo auto salon but not to anyone who respects the Mark's. I dont even own one, might get one soon I seen a few around for sale in nice shape but that paint aint for a Mark.

At most for something flashy maybe a root beer brown with gold flakes or something like the new Rattle Snake color but not something that looks like its off of a Sylvia drift car.

Based on your sketch, It would probably look something like this... which was pretty cool in 1978 but not now, I would stick with a solid color, just my opinion

At least I said something constructive before I shot an idea down...

Foose loves doing designs like the first scetch, if you wantch overhaulin its a very reocurring theme with a lot of his builds.

I really don't see how his paint job would attcract anymore attentiont han his car does now with the solid paint. I'd be staring at it either way.

All of this "ricer" paranoia is getting tiring. Customizing your car isn't "rice." Two tone paint isn't "rice." Putting a giant decal on the side with crazy anime art might be, but two tone isn't.

Spoilers are now "rice." Hood scoops are now "rice." What makes them use isn't the use of the part, but the MISUSE. The lack of proportion. The tackiness.

When I see a Mark like that I don't think 'tasteless.' I see a guy who takes pride in his ride.

"Most of the time it refers to automobiles (usually low-cost factory standard) that have the appearance of a customized / high performance car, but possibly with little or no functional modifications, such as improved engine, suspension or brakes. This is the most common use of the phrase and is the one the rest of this article deals with. "

I say do it... and I will be right behind you with a double decker spoiler, Suicide Lambo Doors, and An unpainted body kit...

LOL!

Just kidding

You should go for what makes you happy cause there will always be haters

No, It wont look anything like that at all and to anyone that dosen't think I respect the Mark you are greatly mistaken. I have done a few mods to the car such as Cobra calipers and rotors, custom interior, 3200 PI stall with rebuilt tranny that should hold around 500 hp. 4.10s with limited slip, SCT, improved airflow and when everyone was saying the Gen. 2 door panels wouldn't fit in a Gen. 1, I was the first on this board to make it work.

At least I'm willing to step out and try something different. Once it is done and if I don't like it then, I will redo it. But I've got to give it a shot. I think it could turn out vary tasteful. To all that responded to the thread, I want to thank you for all your support. It's been exactly what I thought it would be:)

I see where you are going with and it seems that you mean no harm to the Mark, and I have seen some pretty interesting paintjobs on this site. So if your gonna do it then do it I cant wait to see it for myself. If it were me I would use the two tone look and ghost the stripe.

Thank you. Thats the kind of posts I was hoping to see. Thats not a bad idea at all.
