Anyone that has the Pro Racer package from SCT.. where did you order it from and how was your base tune they sent you (they do send you a base tune that differs from the stock one right)?

I think it's finally time for me to take the next step into tuning my own car. XLR and Kid.. you guys gonna be around to help me out when I inevitably change something I shouldn't and my car doesn't start? lol

I bought my original Pro Racer package from Modular Depot when they first came out (RA12), and the Mark VIII DB from Lonnie @ BOC.

You don't get a tune with the Pro Racer package, you get the ability to create your own. ;)

There is however, a DB that comes along with it with parameters for common changes, such as a Mark VIII w/4.10's. :)

I got mine from a local performance shop, which wasn't the best idea I ever had.

I thought it would circumvent the "mail order tuning" scenario...which it didnt.

I would suggest Dennis Reinhart or Lonnie at Blue Oval Chips...both are familiar with the mark 8 platform

Some dealers will provide you with a good starting point, which sometimes is helpful for a beginner to compare to a stock file.

The software also comes with sct canned value files that you can apply over the top of a stock tune..I dont like the canned value files...tho.

First and most important tip.

ONLY change what you fully understand, if you dont understand something DONT CHANGE IT.

There is ALOT of stuff in the Racer Package that 99% of the people out there should/will never have to touch.

if you're going to dive into this.. You need to order this book.. now.

Nice! My next step was going to be asking if there was any literature I should pick up to help me with this.. and luckily for me, I had bought that book a year or so ago because of your suggestion and I have already read it :D

I think I'm going to email Lonnie first and see if I can get the PRP without the X3, as I already have the X2.
