I cant vouch for the brake pads but they have got to be better than motorcraft. Those rotors usually go for around $60 each, so id say the bundle is a good deal.

i got the thermo quiets when i first got my pads done.. not bad... not bad at all..

That doesn't sound like too bad of a set-up. For factory rotors, that's not a bad price in and of itself. I assume that is a set of four rotors anyway. The pads, I might question. I would have to advise Axxis Metal Master's brake pads; They are very high quality and for being semi-metalic, are pretty gental on rotors (http://www.buybrakes.com/axxis/apps-Lincoln.html). You might also want to look into EBC Ceramic "Red Stuff" pads, which are what I've got for my LS; they are a bit pricy (bur really no more so than the Axxis pads), but they're very gental on rotors, have almost no brake fade and low dusting.

For once, the OEM put some decent rotors on a vehicle; since the early 90's, most cars had been coming from the factory with brakes that were really very poorly designed and produced; they wore out quickly and warped even faster. These problems only compounded if you had them machined.

The biggest place for improvement in the LS is the pads; Put a good, high quality pad on the vehicle and not only will you get improved performance from your brakes (and who doesn't want to be able to stop better????), but you'll get longer life as well. When it comes to pads, don't be afraid to shell out a little extra cash; it will pay you back in yards less stopping distance!

PS... I run Hawk HD pads on my truck; they are noisy as hell, won't run them every again. Installed Standard Duty Hawk pads on my father's truck and so far they are doing pretty good. My preference however is with Axxis (currently running their organic pads on my mother's volvo) and the EBC Ceramics (red stuff). The EBC Green stuff pads (semi metallic) have managed to garner themselves a reputation of being brutal on brake rotors, so stay away from them.

just make sure you dont get the rotors from lskoncepts. I ordered some cross drilled and slotted rotors there, and got gold rotors. I was told that I have to pay 20% to send them back even though I didnt want gold rotors. It wasn't in the description and ken told me the "picture" shows a gold/bronze rotors (which you can barely tell)...

i like the thermo quiet pads.. not too expensive and they lasted me about a year.. i consider myself an aggresive driver... so they should last a while.

Slow down partner; lets not go bashing someone's business. If you have issue with them, handle it in private. I'm sorry to tell you, I looked on his page and those rotors look only one color; and that's yellow-gold. See your thread for my advise on how to handle your issue.

Also, brake pads that last about a year? What are they made of? Cardboard and superglue? Unless you autocross or use your vehicle for taxi/delivery 12hrs/day, there is no excuse for pads only lasting a year.

Don't drive with two feet and leave your left foot resting on the brake pedal.

A year? Good God.

I have Thermo quite's on my Sport Trac and my LS. I will never buy them again. On the Sport Trac, they squeal from the moment you press the pedal til the time the vehicle stops. Drives me crazy. On the LS, they are a little better, but they still squeal about the time the car comes to a rest....Very minimal dust on either vehicle though.

Cold braking power:
Sport Trac - About the same as the previous pads (Bendix TitaniuMetallic II)
LS - About the same as OEM

Hot braking power:
Sport Trac - Not as good as the Bendix. Truck seems to push harder, at higher speeds
LS - Under moderate spirited driving, they are a decent match to OEM, but get these puppy's really hot and they will give up. I found this out the hard way on our last Tennessee members meet at The Tail of the Dragon. I went into a hard left hand turn at around 50 MPH and the pedal went to the floor. Mid ways in the turn I stomped on them again and they caught sending the back end of the car sliding to the right. I almost dropped a load on the leather. ...We had been up there a few months prior at which time I had the OEM pads and they didn't give any cause for alarm.

There are good and bad ones in them all, but after 2 sets I'm not satisfied. I don't want to turn you against them before you get a chance to try them out for yourself, but I wish I had this kind of information before I bought them.

yes they were factory rotors.

As to the truth of it, I don't know for a fact....But I was told by a guy at O'Reily's that the OEM rotors are made for Semi-Matellic brake pads, and that ceremic would cause a squeal....But on the same hand, he also assured me that the thermo quites wouldn't squeal either.....Can anyone else offer some advice as to what rotor composite is best with ceremic pads?

Well, that's odd that the EBC's were noisy. Were the rotors new or old; that could have something to do with it. Did you try putting some pad dressing on? That's basicly a "glue stick" that you apply to the back of the pad, helping prevent vibration between the pad and rotor (because it's somewhat "stuck" to the piston). That might help. As far as rotors go; the OEM isn't a bad unit with these cars, there really isn't a good reason they'd make noise. Give Axxis a shot; I've never heard any complaints about them and in my experiance, quiet as you could ever hope for. Of course, EBC's havn't ever made noise for me either. Maybe you should try deglazing your rotors...

thanx for the help guys. i had the ebc red pads and they squeel!
If the EBC pads squeal you can contact EBC for a free set of shims for the pads. It will eliminate the squeal. Their number is (818) 362-5534.

I just went to the web site and they sure look gold to me.

is it ok if the Wagner thermoquiet front pads are semi-metallic
and the rears are organic?

That I would avoid. Reason being, those semi-metallic are going to grab better than the organic's. So what you're doing is making the front work harder. There is a lot of engineering that goes into correct brake proportioning and by putting two different types of pads on your car, you throw all of that out the window. However, will it hurt the car? No. But you will get a little more nose dive (most likely) because the front will be taking more of the load. Long story short, is it the best way to go? No, best way is run the same pad on all 4 corners. But will it hurt the car? Nope.

Porterfield R4-S?

Someone on here a while back said the Porterfield R4-S High Performance Street and Autocross, work well low noise and dust.

Can anyone comment?

I haven't put them on my LS yet (only 6300 miles) but I have been using Performance Friction Carbon Metallics on 4 other vehicles now from my SHO to my F-150 company truck and I would recomend them to anyone. Better brake feel, shorter stopping distances, no squeal, vibration free. I haven't done the dragon so I ca't comment on there heat absorbtion properties, But otherwise fantastic pads.
