Started off as a rattle. It rattle on startup and when under pressing the gas. It did it in drive as well as neutral. I thought it might have been a heat shield or the cat when suddenly the noise stopped and threw he code p0025. Anybody ever have this code?

Sorry, i usually make sure i say the year and engine. 2004 v8.

What year and which engine? If it's a gen I V8, then I would bet you have a bad timing chain tensioner on the driver's side.

Okay, so it's a gen II. That makes the timing chain/tensioner a lot less likely. Maybe the driver's side cam sensor, or maybe RFI from a really bad coil?

Just some more information. All 8 coils were changed about 20,000 miles ago as we'll as the plugs. Also switched to another set of plugs and valve cover gaskets 5,000 miles ago. I am currently at 121,000.

Couldn't think of anything else to do so i tried changing the cam sensor. The old one cam out rough and the new one will not go back in. The hole has a notch in it about half way through that stops it. I wonder if this "notch" is the reason for the noise. Maybe a retainer poked a hole in the cylinder head. Any thoughts
