ok, ready to put the rack back in the car. looks to be a really difficult night. how did you guys do it? elbows cant be on the rack before it goes back up, and cant get to the top of the rack once its in to screw the elbows in. even if i could i cant see how i could get any tools in there... any suggestions? possibly a step by stem guide on the best/easiest way to get it back in there? ps. i ended up just cutting the old elbows, and that how i got them out. i really need help.

thanks guys..

You can get to the fittings easily when the tie rods, steering shaft, and rack mount bolts are still removed. When the rack is totally disconnected, you can move it around up there, so the fittings are accessible.

Good luck, it's not that bad of a job.

Support the rack an inch or two below where it mounts (use a jack or something), then put the elbows on the rack and thread them a little by hand from the over the subframe (through the opening where the hoses will attach to the elbows). From under the subframe, use a wrench to tighten the elbows down the rest of the way (not too tight!).

The idea is to leave just enough room between the rack and the subframe to rotate a wrench. After the elbows are secured, raise the rack the rest of the way up to the mounting holes and bolt it down. I used a little Permatex brand thread sealant with teflon to supplement the o-ring that came with my elbow.
