I've had the check engine light on for the past two days for the rear cat (driver) oxygen sensor heater code P0141. Yesterday I went ahead and bought a replacement sensor and put it on, reset the computer and it went away for about 30 miles and boom its back again with the same P0141 code. Inspection was due today and, yes you guessed it, i failed for the Check Engine light. The mechanic told me that I might be looking at replacing the cats. I've checked the Fuse 11 and relay 15 in the engine fuse box and they check out fine. Any ideas on what to check next? Would a bad cat trigger a P0141 code?

... The mechanic told me that I might be looking at replacing the cats....

That "mechanic" doesn't know what he is doing. The cats can't cause a heater circuit code. It is probably a wiring harness problem. Proper troubleshooting is required.

Yep, same thing I thought. Turned out to be a wiring harness problem after all. Just inside the female connector, one of the two white wires seemed to have melted and corroded. A simple splice-and-dice got it working again. It amazing how desperate shops are to make a few bucks. Thanks all.

Good one flash! thanks for the tip! I'm tracking down a few oxygen codes myself.
