Overheating

so i just finished replacing my vcgs plugs and cops, and she runs BEAUTIFULLY. but on a couple diff. test drives wen i laid into her, she started overheating and reducing engine power. would air in the line possibly cause this? if not any one have ideas on what could be the problem? never had this issue til after this last tune.
 
usually a cracked degas bottle or bad degas cap allows air into the system. U can try bleeding the air out of the system first but air had to get there somehow.
 
Yeah first thing I would do is take a flashlight and check the area around the degas bottle to see if any coolant has leaked out.
 
when doing vcgs, i removed a coolant line. some coolant escaped, but not a significant amount at all. i thought maybe this could caused air to get in my line.
 
i would just bleed it then. opening up any part of the cooling system will likely introduce air into the system. if it wasnt overheating before it may not have a cracked degas bottle although, now that its overheated a few times it may be cracked now
 
i was doing test drives around block and it happened on two of them, so i wasnt far and i just came home and parked, so hopefully it didnt crack degas bottle.
 
I hope its not cracked but if it is spend the extra $ on the motorcraft bottle. The cheaper Dorman bottle has issues with the threads on the bottle getting messed up so the cap wont thread on correctly in my experience.

thanks for the info. i also read your degas thread, very good. if it is degas/when i get new degas, it will be my step by step guide.
 
bled system today. once i got air out of system, significant leak of coolant right behind drivers side wheel. im assuming degas is cracked, so a new one is on its way. when i got the stream of coolant from bleeder, i saw little debris in the fluid... any thing to worry about? any ideas on what/where its from?
 
Yeah, that's not good. You need to flush the heater core, which isn't very easy on this car.

He needs to flush the whole cooling system. I suspect that a Lincoln dealer would be the best bet for this.

I'm just thinking that if there's debris in the core, then you might need to connect an actual flush, like a garden hose (but low pressure to avoid breaking the core!) to the heater tubes by the DCCV to clean it out. A typical flush procedure is great for getting old coolant out and maybe some minor cleaning, but I doubt debris would be nice enough to connect next to the drain petcock.

The correct flush procedure involves machinery that pumps cleaners through the whole system. It sounds like what you are calling a flush is just a drain and refill, not a flush. I see no reason to suspect that most of the trash would be in the heater core and not the engine. The entire cooling system needs a proper flush.
