Overheating...

I went through all the threads tryin to find a solution... and it seams it might just be air in the coolant system... but I have a ??... I changed out the thermostat and our 97' still is overheating... it goes a lot slower now... there's air in the system cause you can hear it gurgling when it gets hot... I was wondering how do you bleed the lines?... I read turn the heater on hot... but my heater doesn't blow hot air at the moment... are the two problems related?...

also when it overheated the first time I was on the interstate... I read about that our blocks have a tendency to warp and blow head gaskets when it overheats... how much does it have to overheat for that to happen?... I had to start it a couple times to get it off the interstate... it ran pretty hot... but there's no fluid leaking anywhere so I'm hopin nothing got damaged...
 
use a floor jack and lift the front off the ground take off the radiator cap and add fluid let the car get up to temp with the heat on blast. the reason you want to do it like this is u lift the radiator up high and all the air bubles will escape there because the air wants to go to the highest point.
 
Are you filling your coolant through the opening in the crossover tube? That's the way you are supposed to fill it. When you fill it, you should have the cap off of the de-gas tank until the level reaches the mark, then put the cap back on and finish filling at the crossover tube.

Our cars don't have radiator caps.
 
I usually do a fast 3/4 fill thru the expansion tank, with the cross over tube cap off. Then install the expansion tank cap securely and continue filling via the crossover tube. When the level gets about half way to the top, I start gently compressing both hoses. You'll see the level rise and fall, while air bubbles make its way the top. As the level drops, I fill and compress the hoses again. Continue until you don't see any more bubbles. Your heater will not blow hot air is coolant is not circulating. IF you have air trapped in the system, coolant will not be able to reach the heater core.
