I have a 2000 Lincoln ls 3.9L v8, It was been acting up here and there. It leaks coolant when shut off, and not while its running. The car will over heat if coolant is not kept topped off. And it will only do that every couple of days, not all the time. i have replaced the thermostat recently and that didn't seem to help anything. The coolant is coming from the reservoir I'm sure, it leaks out on the front diver side wheel housing. Has any one had this issue with their Lincoln? and if so could you guide me to a fix? thanks

I was having the same problem. I replaced the coolant reservoir (it had cracks in it) but it still overheated. It turns out that the cooling fan pump actuator had gone out and the cooling fan wasn't running at a high enough speed. I have a recent thread on how to replace it.

replace coolant tank

you have air in the system, replace the tank before you do anything else. Then bleed the system correctly. Then see if it continues to overheat. One thing at a time, but you must replace that tank.

Yep. Tireman is dead on the money. Many of us..been there, done that. The coolant reservoir bottle aka Degas bottle gets hairline cracks from the inside due to years of heat and pressure stress. Ends up leaking onto the ground just behind drivers wheel. Replace it then bleed the system thoroughly, to the letter. You mayhave to bleed 2 or 3 times. Do a search on this forum on "degas" and check out the many threads on this.

My case was different. Cracks in the bottle developed as a result of the overheating due to the cooling fan problems.
