ok recently I was having clock spring problems but the only problem it was causing was just muting my radio and unmuting it over and over. Well i bypassed the wire for the radio controls and now everything good except the radio controls on the steering wheel dont work but that was to be expected when i bypassed the wire. That doesnt bother me but today I was in SST mode alittle bit and it wont shift into 3rd gear. 1st and 2nd work fine and lets say I switch over while im in a higher gear to where im in 4th in sst mode. I can still upshift to 5th but when im downshift it goes straight from 4th to 2nd. everything else in sst works fine except it refuses to go into 3rd. do you all think this is just the clockspring again.

I'm not aware of any electrical association between your clockspring and your transmission.

Faulty clocksprings can affect the airbag, horn, and steering wheel buttons.

ok well does anyone know anymore info about it like what the problem is, how much it cost to fix, etc. as far as I know it still works fine when i just have it in regular auto mode and worked fine when I took it out of sst and ive never had a problem with my sst until today.

At a minimum, you need to get the transmission DTCs pulled and post them to get any good help on this. You need to use a Ford specific scan tool to get the useful codes.

Just offhand, you should be aware that the shifter is actually a giant switch. I mean that it's electric, not mechanical. You are likely to have either something wrong with the electrical contacts in the shifter or a faulty solenoid in the trans or a problem with the wiring in between. Good Luck!!!

SST mode just has a shift up switch and a shift down switch. It doesn't have specific switches for gears 1,2,3,4,5. It sounds like the up and down switches are working, just that the transmission refuses to use certain gears. That's a problem (unfortunately) with the transmission, not the shifter.

I've had an issue like this a couple of times. Mine goes like this > using SST > go to shift down or up to 3rd, if downshifting it skips 3rd to 2nd, if upshifting it doesn't leave 2nd to 4th or 5th, only to 1st > go to D5 car shifts normally, same in D4, goes thru all gears > turn off car and restart, no issues.

Once this was accompanied by a "hard" shift before it stopped going into 3rd, the other time it just didn't go to third. This was almost a year ago now and have not had the issue in about 6 months.
