OK... finally got the sparkplugs and boots changed... it was actually a lot easier than I was expecting... and thanks goes to Max at Five Star Ford... he sent the boots very fast!...

But ok.. my new ?? is... when we pulled the boots there was oil all over inside there... when we sprayed the air hose it went all over... I'm talkin quite a bit of oil... also some of the boots were really deformed and the springs inside were all mangled... I ended up clipping a few of them cause they were longer than the boot... afterward the car runs a lot better than it did before and dummy lights came on so I figure nothing's wrong

so any idea why there was so much oil in there?... is that normal and also was it ok to just clip the spring/coils?... I made sure it was pretty much like they were just a little shorter... just don't want anything to happen down the road...

thanks

It's not "normal" but it does happen quite often on the Mark VIII. To fix this you need to change out the gaskets and this is not an easy job but eventually you will have to do it because the oil might cause misfires and drivability issues.

unfortunately its too common on markviii's, and it is a PIA to fix. this IS why your old boots were shot, and without fixing the leak it WILL happen again

pass. side took me 20 mins...........

drivers...........

well lets just say the gaskets have been sitting for 2 months in my room............. :D

waiting for something else to go bad on that side.....so i can do the gaskets at the same time........lol

leak was only on one cylinder, and very little on that one side.........pass. was the bad one.

Put half a cap of brake fluid in the engine and hope it will seal the leak! No not reallY! my engine is nearing 119K and they are still dry as a bone. I guess that I am one of the few lucky ones.

Seriously though, Why couldn't you pull the plugs, clean the sparkplug holes with a rag around a long screwdriver & some carb cleaner. Once they are all cleaned up use a flexible type light to see into the holes and put some RTV sealant around the seals/leaks. You could use a long q-tip like doctors use to apply the RTV. Although it's not the proper way to do it don't you think it would stop the leaks? I do.
