Offset question

had a set of 20s with a 40mm offset. i thought they fit well but would have liked them to not stickout so far. not that they did stick out butwould have liked to have them tuck in more..what would be the ideal offset on a 8.5 in wheel

You would want a 46-48mm offset on a 8.5" wheel to be flush with the fender.
