i have a line on a 6 disc in dash unit. i have been told that they will interchange as long as it is the same series(alpine>alpine and non-alpine>non-alpine). my question is this: does the new radio have any sort of security code that i have to get taken care of here at work, or is it plug and play?

It's plug and play. I swapped out my OEM cassette for an OEM in-dash 6 CD changer and there was no security code to worry about. I swapped the non-alpine units. I'm almost 99.9% sure the Alpine versions are the same.
