Well we all know the chrome 10 spokes are the absolute worst when it come to failing chrome in the northern winters, but how well do the rest of the oem chrome wheels handle the salt?

I was planning on just polishing them up once before winter and throwing a couple coats of wax on top of each. I'll follow up by washing them with a bucket of warm water and a sponge once a week or as need be during the cold months.

Most oem wheels are of better quality and are less susceptible to pitting vs a/m wheels, so I feel as though this regiment should suffice.

I've also heard vasoline works  But I can't iomagine it being to fun to get off come spring time. Then there are wheel sealers, but I wish not to purchase any.

Thoughts or tips appreciated. But don't suggest taking them off for the winter. :)

Sooo glad not to have winter schtuff to deal with. My chrome ten spokes are in amazing shape and I plan on keeping them that way. The only moisture they see is my hot breath from polishing on them :D

Too bad you can't put her away for warmer days... :shifty:

Well its winter. Buy some snow flakes :p

:yuck:

I have my disgusting 10 spokes but I just can't afford to throw a set of dedicated winter tires on them as I have a g or two worth of dental work needing done.

This is it's second winter since I bought it back in 07. If I had my way it would still be stored. :(

Dentures are only like $500, and you can get a blender for $5 at a yard sale. Chewing is over rated

Lol

I'm too young for falsies, besides, they aren't THAT bad. I'm just expecting the worst because I have no ins and the fact that I don't remember when the last time I went was. Cavities alone are 250 a pop, I can SEE atleast 4. Who know what else they'll find. :(

Now back to the topic at hand. :)

The problem is, once those 20 spokes start slightly pitting, its all over if salt touches them..mine had a couple small bubbles in the corners of the front rims and just driving it through one winter made them worse..and I probably only drove it in snow 3-4 times last year, and on top of that cleaned the car at least every other day or hosed it off. If I were you id smear some grease on the backs of the spokes since that's usually the first thing that starts pitting and flaking. Also a little tip if you hate salt and rust as much as I do..take a spray can of white lithium grease and spray inside the small holes in the bottoms of the doors and coat the bottom lip with it also. Spray in every little crevice and hole underneath the car and along the bottoms of the rocker panels..nothing will stick to it including salty water...and if it bothers you that its greasy you can always wipe it off after winters over...worked nicely for me.

I probably won't go as far as spraying every open cavity under the car. I do plan on taking some sort of clear grease like substance and smearing it under the doors and some known trouble spots. My cars not rust free(couple bubbles on the lower rear rockers and the lower pass door which I "Fixed" this spring) so i'm not super anal about doing everything, just enough to help.

As for the wheels, they aren't perfect either. One or two have little pits here and there but nothing anybody would notice, only me cause I see stuff like that :(. I'm not concerned about the inside of it either, just protecting the outside. I'd really like to stay away from ws spray, stuff is just messy....and white. I'll have to start searching for a paint safe clear grease of some sort to slather in places.

Only thing I use ws on is the window edges to keep them from freezing.
