I am in the market for a LSC Mark VII. I read that the 97 LSC had some tranny issues and that in late 97, the tranny was beefed up. Is this correct? If true, what VIN's or production dates have the beefed up tranny?
I sure like the lowered black LSC's followed by the red ones.
This will be my first V8 Muscle Car (well kinda muscle car) that did not come from the 60's. (Comet, Camaro, Skylark, Mustang, Dart and Ranchero)

All Mark Viii's Got Same Tranny 4r70w

THE EEC computer tune can have something to do with shifting points, but that can be moddified with a chip... I have only heard of problems with 93 tranny, it was the first year for the 4r70w.

also its not the trannys fault most times, its the driver. When you start the car up, it defaults to overdrive so if your driving your ride in town and get on it at all, the tranny wears clutches more with the LINCOLN SHIFT, that luxery transition between gears instead of the snapping chirp in most sportscars. If buying make sure tranny is good, then get 1-2 shift accumulator rebuilt in valvebody and get performance chip to change shiftpoints, should be fine..

Haven't bought yet, look in autotrader and get a 50,000 mile mark for $6,000 owned by antiques (old people), and its just like getting a new one.

good luck, need any help finding 1 let me or any of us know, most people here will go out of there way for ya... good luck, just inspect the mark you buy, its the best car out there for the money no doubt....

Ya, over-drive sucks and you can kill any trans prior to 98 without a problem by being in fourth and hitting WOT. The shift will kill it.

98 and up trans are re-designed and beefed up a little. I dont think there was a transition to this better thrans in 97 though. If I were you I would just look for a 98. 97/98 model years go for the same and then you know you will have the better trans.

But you will still need to flush and switch to Mercon V trans fluid if you want it to have a healthy life. Adding a trans cooler, that is one that does not go into the water radiator like the factory one, is not an option - its a must if you plan to drive any faster than my grandma on Sunday.

If you get a 98 there is no need to upgrade the 1-2 accumulators. They will be fine. A J-mod might be in order if you want to firm up your shift. I can cherp second without even thinking about it and third on a good day :D

Just dont buy the car and beat the crap out of it before you do fluid changes and an external trans cooler. The engine wont need any "strengthening" really.
