My '00 LS non-sport v6 does not want to shift into 4th and 5th gear. I can only get up to 60mph before the car starts struggling. It shifts from gears 1 to 3 with effort. I do have a faulty solenoid, but from what I read, it dosent affect 4th gear and beyond. Am I over reading something? What could be the possible cause?

So you started an new thread because you didnt get the answer you were looking for in your other one? Here is your answer....again:

Change your transmission shift solenoid and have the transmission flushed. This cures 90 percent of the shift problems in the 5R55N transmissions. Like it was stated in the other thread, the solenoid is a known and fairly common issue in the transmissions. If you are having shift problems, this is more than likely the cause.

oh no, that wasn't my intent at all. i thought it'd be something different than the solenoid. sorry if it's considered a duplicate post. thanks.

Taken from the link I provided you in your previous post:

For anyone unlucky enough to have bought one of these...

There are a few solutions to make this transmission work as it should:

1) Fluid - get rid of the crappy "Mercon V" and put in actual Mercon V
Symptoms - You won't really notice anything except the failing solenoid
2) Solenoid - the factory "Mercon V" ruined your solenoid
Symptoms - delayed engagement from P to R/D and from R to D
3) Servos - the battle of aluminum vs. steel will always be won by steel. Always.
Symptoms - 5th gear fails; if you hold steady speed at ~60ish you'll feel a hard shift from 5th to 4th and back to 5th quickly and violently; and crappy shifting into 2nd
4) Spring - the 3-4 spring has a very good chance of breaking on you.
Symptoms - You'll lose 4th gear (and 5th is made from 4th)

I believe the 3-4 spring is in the valve body. If you are going to pull the transmission pan, you may as well put the TransGo shift kit in the valve body. It will firm up the shift points from where they are SUPPOSED to be. If your 3-4 spring is broken it will help fix your issue and actually make the transmission shift better than it did new. If you solenoid IS NOT bad, which is highly unlikely, change it anyway while you have the pan off. It WILL go bad eventually and you have to remove it to do any work on the valve body.

Where do you get this shift kit?

well since the SST shifter can be added to a car that didn't come with it by bolting it in and flashing the computer, i would expect so.

Does this work on the SST as well?

Yes. I have the SST. It doesnt work at the moment because something is messed up in the shifter itself but it has nothing to do with the shift kit. The kit works for the 5R55S and 5R55N tansmissions so the same kit will work in your car too. Part number SK 5R55W... IIRC
