Hey y'all, I've been wnting a Mark VIII for some time now. I havent had much luck finding anything in my area (Houston, TX), but I have found a few. I'm wondering what I should really pay attention to when I inspect the car. What areas are known trouble spots. Its a 93 with 216K It seems to be in good shape, the motor has been rebuild, though I'm not sure how long ago. The body is solid, interior is solid, all electronics work, he romoved the troublesome air suspensions that I've read about as well. I know it will need a few minor things fixed, but the guy drives it an hour each way daily and hasn't had any problems with it. I test drove it and its nice and quick. I'm taking it to my Ford guy to give it he once over and let me know what I need to fix on it. I'm rell interested in making this a street/strip car as well. Does anyone have any lincoln performance site links. Thanks in advance guys!

I know its alot of miles, but its also within my price range and I work for Ford, just don't know anything about these, other than I can get my parts for cheap. I don't really have the option of waiting here, I really need to get a car and get one fast. Anyone in Houston or the surrounding area have anything for sale?

If you don't mind me asking, How much is the asking price? With those miles and average wear and tear that goes along with it I can't see paying very much. Just be careful with what you buy.

At 200k miles, you have to consider replacing the engine at some point.

Good news is that the Mark VIII uses the same 4v 4.6 as the mustang, so they are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.

Not the same as the mustang, the same as the cobra maybe. The regular stangs are 2 valve engines, the cobra has the 4 valve engine.

you got a lot you can choose from, the cobra, continental, didn't the aviator have a DOHC 4.6L?

93 with over 200k. I would not pay more than $1500 assuming the rest is in perfect shape.

I would continue to search. AT that milage the little things start to break. The mirros switch, cruise control, CV joints, etc... a lot of things can start to go so its hard to narrow down the common problems to look for.

The engine is strong, the 4.6l is a great engine - even being a Ford product. But 216k puts it past middle aged and approaching retirement without know when or even IF it was rebuilt.

Also at 216 the trans MUST have been replaced, if not, expect to do so. :(

You will be buying a project car.

And yes, the Aviator has the DOHC 4.6L :)

Conti engine wont work, front wheel drive and the trans bell housing will never match up. Options are Cobra, Marauder, Aviator, Mach 1 for DOHC.

If you are serious about getting a Mark VIII, send me a PM. I can put you in touch with a 95 LSC Red with 139000 miles. I will be converting it to springs next weekend so you wont have any air bag problems later. I am in Spring.

couldn't he just use his old trans bell housing:confused: I knew it was FWD but I thought they were interchangable?

These are not "old school" cars :) The bell housing is integrated right into the trans as part of the main body.

I wouldn't be afraid of a Mark VIII with over 200K, but It would be better if you were the one that took it there.

I'd look for one in the 120K-150K range if you are looking for a Mark VIII at a good price.

But you have to remember you are going have to work on it. Things will wear out. Most will not cost a ton if you know where you can get them. (We can help with that). Also with help from this site you can do many of the repairs yourself.

The 4.6 engine will last a long time.

Get some descent tools and get ready to have some fun.

I had to chuckle a little bit... Somebody correcting the Godfather! LOL!

And wow... 200+ and you guys are only talking about the motor???

Jeesus... unless you are getting it for a steal I would stay away (see sub 1000)

Just pointing out a fact.:) Did I do something wrong?

He was asking close to $2k, I got him down to around $1300. But like y'all have mentioned, it will definitely need some things changed right away. I've decided I'm not gonna pull the trigger on this one, as I need something I can drive during the week without problems but also want to be able to wrench on it when need be and not have to worry about it not being dependable. GMAN, I will definitely give you a call at some point today. Thanks for all the replies guys! Now I'm just hoping I can find one that I can afford.

I think its funny that the motor was rebuilt, where did he find a shop that would rebuild a 4v 4.6 Liter? Very few places have any idea at all how to do any work to these motors.

If want to talk about an outrageous asking price for a Mark with high miles, try a 94 with bad paint, collision damage, average interior, and 246,000 miles. All this and more for the low low price of $2500.
