I changed my VCG's, coils, IMTV gaskets, etc about 2 months ago. Recently I started to smell the oil in the vents again, take a look and the outer side corners of the VCG's are dripping onto the headers, I assume where RTV is. Used felpro gaskets, everything was snug and clean. Are you not suppose to use black on them???

Did you torque the VC correctly?

Which flavor of black? Generally, you want high temperature, which is usually the orange stuff.
Anyway, as was said, using the correct torque and tightening in the correct sequence is the most important thing. Also, if you used much RTV, you should snug it up in sequence and then wait a half hour or so before tightening it to the full torque value.

You mean red? Blue is the proper one for VCG's I believe which I was going to use but had a little black left so I used the last of it, bad idea I guess... Tightened them a hair more then I probably should have but its the RTV points that looks to be leaking.

I don't think that color is the biggest factor. I've used blue and red before too. The right torque is very important. Too much can be worse than too little.
