New transmission advice...

OK, long story short..

Just got a call from dealership and I need a new tranny. $3200.

Am i better off just doing it there, or can i get a much better deal somewhere else?

He also said he could possibly fix the parts (clutch i think he said) that went bad inside, but with 180k on it, he recommends just replacing it.

ok, i've talked to other shops and they say they always prefer to rebuild.. and i might also save by doing it this way.
What would you guys do?

I myself like to save $$ and would buy a nice used one for 500 and be done.500 vers 3200 no brainer. You would have to add 500 for R&R if you have someone do it. So 1000. Of course shops are going to say rebuild how do you think they get 3200 for a job. PS you get trans W/100K then hopefully you get another 80K out of it. You think you will have this car to 260K?
