Greetings all:
I just picked up an 04 LS6 last month. It was a trade in from a 90 year old lady with just over 45,000 miles on it. I even contacted her to verify the story and it's all true. The car is in excellent condition and I couldn't be happier!
This is my first domestic car in many years, and I'm very impressed with the quality of this car. I can't believe how undervalued these cars are.
I'm not planning any mods as I really like the way the car looks and drives as is. Maybe I'll change my mind once spring rolls around! It's a tough time of year to buy a new car.
I've spent an unhealthy amount of time on this website already, and have learned quite a bit. A big thanks to all of you that contribute to the wealth of information.
I do have a couple of questions for you that I wasn't able to find through the search function. I would like to disable the auto-lock feature. It states in the manual that I have to have it done at the dealer. Any way to do this at home?
Secondly, is the gearshift indicator supposed to be lighted? I asked the dealer and he said no. That would be the first car I ever had that didn't light. I'm talking about the P,D,1,2 Etc on the gearshift lever here, not the indicator on the dash.
Thanks in advance for any help. I plan on owning this car for many years and look forward to being a member of this community.

The gearshift *does* have a light. You need to pull the console, then you can easily see where the bulb attaches to the housing.

Removing the console is easy as the upper part can come off without moving the lower. There's a thread with some pics here when talking about swapping to an SST shifter. Pop off the rear vent, start pulling screws from there and the console box and it pops up pretty quick.

AFAIK, you have to get the dealer (or use a dealer's scan tool) to disable the auto-lock. V8 models have a message center that allows you to enable/disable that yourself (among other things).

At least get an intake.

That is one mod that I'm considering right now. I see you have the kkm on your ls6. Does it give you a noticeable seat of the pants boost, or is it mostly for the sound? I like both! Ever have any issues with water?

I have an LS8.

It does both.

With stock exhaust it gives you more sound under wide open throttle only. And it does give the car a bit more power. I would say like 10hp at the most.

No issues with water and ive driven the car in thunderstorms.
